COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Much like the "sweet light crude oil" from the eastern plains of Colorado this beer pours a deep black with a tantalizing off-white head. Aromatics of sweet malt and bourbon envelope the nose like the sunset of the eastern plains. The malt profile continues through the palate from beginning to end with subtle hints of chocolate, coffee, and of course bourbon. This is a true beer for the malt and bourbon lovers alike.

Black pour with small tan head. Aroma of malts, chocolate, coffee, bourbon and hops. Taste of malts, chocolate fudge, slight coffee, caramel, faint hops and subtle bourbon. Full bodied, softer carbonation, perfectly balanced, great beer.

Bottle. This is a sweet and bourbon-y stout. If that is your game than this is one to seek out. For me this is a solid stout but should be pared with other sweets or it will throw everything out of whack.

So if you know Colorado, you know that Poncha Springs is in East Bumf*ck (actually it’s not far from Salida, which has some of the prettiest Victorians in CO). This is one of the best black beers that they make in this state and that’s saying a lot given Call to Arms, Bull & Bush, Avery, etc.

750ml corked bottle, 2013 vintage. Rich roasted malt aroma with nice chocolate, vanilla and bourbon notes. Pours black with a thin light brown head with little retention and lacing. Starts with rich and sweet chocolate malt with a bit of roasted malt. Finishes very smooth with a thick mouthfeel and rich body with excellent bourbon and vanilla flavors on the back end. Very nice bourbon stout.
