You have just picked up a Winner. Dark Horse Lager came from behind in a field of 2,832 to win a BRONZE MEDAL* at the Great American Beer Festival. This very well-balenced, deep copper brown lager has a great lightly hopped character with drinkability that leaves you wanting another.

Dark mahogany color. Thicker feel with consistent taste. Some say there is a hint of chocolate flavor but I cannot identify/confirm that. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampler from bottle at 2014 Price Hill Beer Fest. Somewhat hazy dark amber color, nice malty/chocolate aroma, flavor much like the nose. Good dark lager.

Rated on 5-15-2010 at Bock & Rock event in Minster, OH. This bottled beer pours a small beige head with a short retention, transparent copper body, no visible carbonation observed, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, hint of hops and lightly nutty. The taste is sweet, caramel malt and nutty. The palate is soft carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer lacks any WOW factor and it did not leave me wanting it in the future.

@ Buffalo Wings/Columbus. Clear dark mahogany with a partial head cover and lace curtains. Taste is toasted malt that pushes toward chocolate at the back end of the palate. Bittering is not enough to balance, leaving a lingering sticky sweetness. Average.

Had a pint on tap at the brewery. Delicious. Refreshing, slightly smoky, almost fruity.

chinchill (4989) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 9, 2013
12 oz bottle purchased just a few days ago near brewery. Pours dark brown, clear, with a modest size head that has good retention and leaves a moderate amount of sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma is less attractive than hoped, with some earthy hop pellets and roasted grains. The flavor is similar in description but somewhat better and more complex. Near medium body with medium carbonation.
