7/19/2007: Elevator XTRA Kölsch is a pretty mild Vienna-style Lager. It’s color is light amber and there is a bit of toasted malt in the aroma and flavor. The hoppiness is quite subtle and just barely enough to give the beer a slightly spicy hop flavor and mild bitterness. Drinkable, but not great.

Draught at the The Smiling Skull Saloon during the Ohio Brew Week in Athens, Ohio. Rating #1 for this beer...

Presented as Elevator Hubris

Clear yet deep, ruby-tinted-amber with an off-white head that re-emerges upon swirling. Sweet roasty grains (probably the most aromatic of today’s brews) with defined lagering yeasts behind. Light dirtiness to the flavor (earthen) of sweet malts against rye bitterness. Roasts linger. Steady body carries flavor a long while. Well done.

Sampled at Ohio Brew week in Athens. Listed as Hubris - Vienna Style lager. Malty aroma, that seems sweet and smoky. Tastes like smoked peat. A bit thin and sour.

Comp from the Bartender. Nose of chocolate & dried fruit, toast, and smoke. The brew is a ruby copper. The tall beige head is mostly lasting and leaves light lace. The huge toasty flavor is slightly sweet & roasted. The finish is long and subtly smokey. The medium soft body is creamy. Very interesting.

Amber color with a small beige head. Toasted malt aroma. Malty flavor with a slight amount of bitterness.

Nice amber color with a thin head. Not a spectacular aroma. nicely and slightly bitter. medium thin body. crisp aftertaste. Reminiscent of Murphy's Irish Amber.

A little on the syrupy side for me. Strong sweet flavor. I couldn't drink a whole glass in a reasonable amount of time.

UPDATED: MAY 6, 2004 Me: Do you have any seasonal beers?
Waiter: Yes, we have a Vienna-Style Amber Lager.
Me: That sounds good, I'll have that.
Waiter: Here you go.
Me: By the way, what do you call this beer?
Waiter: Vienna-Style Amber Lager.
Me: No, I mean what is the name of it.
Waiter: Vienna-Style Amber Lager.
Me: Oh...

I didn't like this one as much as Great Lakes' Eliot Ness but it was still a good seasonal from the Elevator. Lack of creativity in naming it aside, it was not a bad beer at all. Dark amber color with medium bone white head and rather sticky lacing. Sweet malty aroma. Flavor was sweet and a little syrupy. I'll get this one again next year.
