A traditional dark mild at 3.6% abv. It has many CAMRA awards to its name and is a well known brand in the free trade. The beer is well balanced with a full roast flavour. The use of Crystal malt and Roast Barley give a deep underlying characteristic flavour, which is balanced with Fuggles hops as the sole variety.

this was terrible - I couldn't drink it...too bitter for me - must be my sweet palate

rogerm1 (21) - Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 9, 2017
Has strong bitter metallic notes and yet is thin and watery at the same time. I experienced it well kept but it was still very unpleasant, beers like this only keep going because of the tied houses system. Avoid.

Cask. Dark ruby (almost black) in colour. Roasted malts (caramel, some chocolate). Sweet roasty taste. Some fruitiness (dark fruits). Dry roasted mildly bitter finish. (2008)

Tried this at the Three Stags Bebbington. Dark brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate malty and dried fruit Taste is light sweet to light bitter medium to light body.

McNeillR (2329) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 27, 2016
Dark ruby brown, thin tan ringed head and no lacing. Nose is non existent, some roast and glass cleaner. Initial taste is watery, tinny and oddly tart. Finishes much the same. Thin as the White Duke. Pathetically cellared, no idea how old it is. #WouldLikeToReRate

Cask @ Akkurat. Dry mild ale with notes of salmiak, chocolate and mild spices. The unusually low sweetness makes it unblanced.

martythesmarty (407) - SWEDEN - OCT 22, 2016

Cask at GBBF Saturday, 13/08/2016. A nutty brown coloured pour with reddy hues and a sticky beige head. Aroma is sweet vanilla, plum jam, nutty malts, hint of toffee, fruit cake. Flavour is composed of sweet earthy nuts, plum jam, tangy fruit. Maybe past it’s best, Palate is watery, semi sweet, vanilla, lowish carbonation. Decent.

VastActiv (7592) - Oulu/Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 18, 2016
Cask at Angleterre, Helsinki. Colour is dark brown with small creamy white head. Aromas and flavors: Some chocolate, some distant hints of grain and malts. Well, this is mild.

Cask in the Floods Tavern, St Ives. Deep brown colour, thick white head. Slightly roasty, treacle, spicy, quite bitter for mild, a bit buttery. Good pint.
