Bottle from a trade with Grumbo, thanks! Aroma is roasted malt, strong liquorice, a little smokiness, burnt caramel, with a touch of dark cocoa and coffee. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Bit too heavy on the liquorice and burnt notes for my taste. AshtonMcCobb (7029) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 19, 2016
Bottle from Beers of Europe.
Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head.
Nose - milk chocolate with a slightly farmyard thing going on.
Taste - burnt toast and chocolate. Boozy. Burnt again on the finish.
Palate - close to medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a long dry crunchy finish.
Overall - decent but a bit gnarly. Svitankova (36) - UKRAINE - MAR 13, 2016
Why imperial? Really disappointing, over-burnt caramel, heavily roasted malt, not pleasant at all, medicinal, herbal, oily harrisoni (19553) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2016
Cask gravity at White Cliffs Beer Festival 2016. Black dark ruby colour lasting beige head. Not much carbonation too much liquorice for me. Yep struggling to drink it. I get these beers at this festival sometimes that are find but make me gag. Just not for me. allmyvinyl (11189) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 27, 2016

Cask at the Reindeer - Norwich. Pours clear reddish brown with a bubbly tan head. Semi-ripe dark fruits in the nose, some toasty bread. Medium sweet flavor with some boozy accents, scorched earth bitterness, baking cocoa, dried and leathery berries. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming in the finish with nips of alcohol, ash, burnt toast, bittersweet chocolate, earth. Given the ABV, there’s really not a lot to this one. Gravity cask @ In De Wildeman, sample size. Clear dark brown color. Soapy light brown head. Aroma’s: roasted, moderate sweet, mocha, caramel, some perfume and solvent. Retronasal: solvent, roasted, moderate sweet, red fruit. Flavor is roasted, moderate bitter. Feels rather thin, very low carbonation. Long finish, weird flavor, eventually roasted and bitter. Strange.
