Bottle received as an extra from BenH - mucho gracias muy amigo! Pours an opaque black with a sandstone-brown head which of about 2-fingers depth which remains for a while. Aroma is dominated by malts, toffee and some sweet fruit noticed too. Taste is bitter, slight tropical fruits and and roast coffee. Stuu666 (13390) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 16, 2014
Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours black, dry roasted chocolate, bitter, light juicy pine. WeissGary (286) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - MAY 11, 2014
Bottle. Nice little beer, flavoursome choco notes, crispy cocoa aroma. Very light tone of hops on the tongue with a milky finish. Complex yet sessionable, quite nice but could be a lot better with more focus on those NZ IPA notes. Oakes (17664) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 5, 2014
Bottle, Cloisters. Med brown, thin head. The choc and roast malts are assertive, drowning out the kiwi hops (pacific jade and Wakatu?). You get the same effect on the palate, a nice beer but aside from a little woodiness ( not a nz signature) it doesn’t show much hop. A nice burnt porter though. Not a bad one but quite nothing Special. Starting off with a bit of hops which is followed by some chocolate and coffee. A bit earthy with a bit of unbalanced bitterness.

Bottle from BenH - many thanks to you! The beer pours out in a deep black colour with steady low head and medium body. Aroma of hops and dark grains - nice! Taste of fresh hops, woods, bread, berries, leaves and chocolate. Hints of mild coffee. Finishes off quite earthy but also in a very honest and pure way. Loved the smooth but characterloaded body and deepness. Great beer. Hirsty (26) - Perth, SCOTLAND - NOV 3, 2013
Black with little head but some lacing. Punchy Kiwi hops are obvious and lovely. Very bitter but not unpleasant. Light on the mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. I would not class this as a Black IPA as it is full of roasted flavours (probably from roasted barley, chocolate and/or black malt). As a stout or porter it is too carbonated. allmyvinyl (10613) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 22, 2013
500ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Comely Bank branch. Pours deep dark brown with a good off-white head. Big roasted aromas, lots of chocolate mixed in with the hops, a bit too much for me, more like a hoppy porter or stout. Taste continues this theme, toasty and citrus. Full-bodied, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very enjoyable. Rune (12738) - Tromsø, NORWAY - AUG 25, 2013
500ml bottle from Nina’s Mini Market. Pours a bubbly, light brown head with fine duration and good lacework to the glass. Dark as pitch. Dark malty nose with smell of cocoa breaking through. Roasted, almost burnt, malty taste, dark chocolate, pine needles, ash and some dark spices. Fresh malt bitter ending. Medium bodied. Pretty nice (hotel room, Edinburgh 08.08.2013). UPDATED: DEC 7, 2013 500ml bottle courtesy of mr_h & Cornelius. Almost black colour, big foamy head. Treacle pine hop aroma. Spicy coffee hop flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A solid black IPA.
