Tap at Rackhouse - I should probably preface this by saying that I love smoked beers, but something is terribly, terribly wrong here - excusing the fact that this brew is sickeningly sweet, the smoke character is unpleasant and seems fake - it almost tastes like an off phenol - burnt tire rubber and a peaty flavor bordering on burnt dung at times - sharp acidity at the end, but still finishing very sweet - fucking terrible - I should have known better with elk mountain. arminjewell (9676) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 11, 2013
Pour on tap at the brewery dark brownish black pour with white head, aroma brought notes of bacon, oak, smoke, campfire notes, some chocolate, roast, coffee, hints of grain, earth and spice notes. Taste is a mix of coffee, chocolate, caramel, lots of campfire smoke, hints of spice, finishing fairly bitter, dry, smoky. This is actually fairly well done.
