COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Uzupełnienie profilu notatki.
Piana drobna zbita, zdobi szkło. Kolor ciemny zmętniony z czerwonymi prześwitami. Aromat ciemne słody, czekolada, lekko owoce, karmel, mało intensywny. Smak szorstka chropowatość ciemnych słodów, karmel, dębina, belgijska owocowośc, przyprawowe ostre nuty drożdżowe, kwaskowe palone nuty. Słodycz umiarkowana, alkohol ukryty, ledwie wyczuwalny. Bardzo Dobry RIS o wyraźnym belgijskim rodowodzie.

Bottle. Black color, foam goes off quite fast leaving just thin layer. Coffee, chockolade aroma but unfortunetly alcohol aroma is the strongest. As many Belgium beers it has high alcohol volume. Surprisingly alcohol is not so strong in taste, coffee taste and bitter chockolade. Dry and malty indeed. Fortunetly not so much CO2 as in many Belgium beers. Overal quite good if you like strong stouts.

Bottle. Dark Brown with a light tan head. Smells of roasted malts, caramel and toffee with coffee & chocolate. Sweet & smooth on the palate with the Alcohol well hidden and a dry finish. Very drinkable.

Une bonne stout de Belgique, cadeau de mes parents, elle est très brune. Au gout, elle passe bien. Ses 9% ne se font pas sentir, la levure belge est plutot discréte. Bonne donc!

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2017 Aromas of yeast, roasted malt, dark chockolate, oak and subtle vanilla. Taste of malt, dark chockolate, a bit of caramel, subtle coffee and a hint of vanilla. Very well balanced aftertaste of sweet and bitter with a remainder of dark chocolate and the high abv.

Pours black with a medium, light beige head. The aroma has quite a bit of alcohol in it. It has significant yeast, chocolate, roasted malt, and minor vanilla. The yeast makes the nose unusual. The taste is dry and sweet. I find plenty of vanilla, raisin, alcohol and yeast. Chocolate and coffee are complimentary, while there is subtle cherry and plum as well. The finish is alcohol and cherry with just a bit of coffee. Medium bodied, slick in texture, and flat carbonation. This is different from anything I can remember having. Its worth trying just for its uniqueness.

Murky dark brown with about one finger of mocha head which recedes pretty quickly but still leaves some lacing. Intense aroma shows caramel malts, maybe a hin of soy sauce, slight roasted malts, vinous or liqueur notes, liquorice and hints of dark/dried fruit. Taste reflects the aroma in both notes and good intensity (plus slight spiciness) but brings a tad too much sweetness (especially so if you consider this a stout) and a quite too aggressive/dominant alcohol feeling. Body is medium (actually surprisingly light for the abv) with average carbonation. Possibly this is a bit too thin of a mouthfeel to fully support taste complexity and alcohol strenght. An interesting beer, but not devoid of flaws. Overall much more a belgian strong dark than an imperial stout.

18-Sep-17 (330-ml swing-top bottle: Obtained 01-Mar-06 in trade with bogdi1, thanks Juha!)
Knowing what I know now about these flip-top bottles, I'd have consumed this beer early on. Live and learn. This Belgian Stout pours a black body and a thin, tan head that dissipates fully and quickly. The nose offers aged aromas of soy, earthy logs, mushroom, Oloroso Sherry, roasted meat, mild ash tray, and some chocolate. On the palate, it's earthy and gently roasty, with molasses, dark chocolate, lightly smoked meat, dark toast, and dried mushroom. Roasty bitterness is light while malty sweetness is medium, yet the finish still shows pleasant, balancing dryness. The beer is medium-full in weight, low in carbonation (damn flip-top), and smooth in mouthfeel. Overall, despite the low carbonation and moderate oxidation from the flip-top, this Belgian Stout is still quite enjoyable and complex. But I tend to like the aged character, so I'm more forgiving.
