The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

From a flip top bottle. Pours out dark brown almost black topped with a long lasting sand head. Aroma lots of sweet malts, dark chocolate, and coffee. Taste is about the same as the aroma with lots of sweetness and a nice touch of coffee.

18-Sep-17 (330-ml swing-top bottle: Obtained 01-Mar-06 in trade with bogdi1, thanks Juha!)
Knowing what I know now about these flip-top bottles, I'd have consumed this beer early on. Live and learn. This Belgian Stout pours a black body and a thin, tan head that dissipates fully and quickly. The nose offers aged aromas of soy, earthy logs, mushroom, Oloroso Sherry, roasted meat, mild ash tray, and some chocolate. On the palate, it's earthy and gently roasty, with molasses, dark chocolate, lightly smoked meat, dark toast, and dried mushroom. Roasty bitterness is light while malty sweetness is medium, yet the finish still shows pleasant, balancing dryness. The beer is medium-full in weight, low in carbonation (damn flip-top), and smooth in mouthfeel. Overall, despite the low carbonation and moderate oxidation from the flip-top, this Belgian Stout is still quite enjoyable and complex. But I tend to like the aged character, so I'm more forgiving.

Bottle at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Pours cloudy black with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma contains roasted malt, barley & hops, dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and caramel. It tastes medium sweet and light roasted bitter, giving way for a mix of hops and chocolate in the finish. Full body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. A very good Belgian, rather than Imperial, Stout.

Not much "imperial" but very decent, without off-flavors this stout is. With a kinda twist - Belgian yeast gives it a bit... playfull character rather being very bold, thick stout. Light bitter, avg level or roast, medium+ body. Liked.

Appearance: dark red-brown, head light mokka. Aroma: coffee at first with deeper chocolate-sweetish notes, light alcohol. Taste: coffee- bitterness, somewhat creamy, some vanilla, alcohol. Taste rich but alcohol and carbonation are a bit too dominant for my taste. Would have preferred it softer.

Wine on the nose, tart for the style, something like some juice in the mix there, light bod

Lots of toast, bread, and nuts. More of a dark, roasted brown ale than a stout. Surprisingly light in bod. Creamy head that sticks around. Hides its alcohol well.

Black pour under a thin spotty off white head. Nice figgy fruity dark roasty stoutly nose. Big roasty dark black malt flavor that’s slightly earthy and slightly fruity without all the fun of chocolatiness. Just kinda mellow and dark and roasty and gently fruity.
