Heathen (1500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - OCT 1, 2012
THOUGHTS: Very saison like in both initial sniff and sip, but then something changed. A stronger floral presence arrived in the aroma and then an odd bittersweet finish started to dominate the flavor. It was somewhat off-putting. It was sort of artificial and overly sweet at times. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light amber with an average, fizzy, cream-colored head that almost fully diminished. The aroma had moderate caramel, pale malts and sugar water; moderate floral, perfume and herbal hops; moderate spicy and peppery yeast; and honey. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet and moderately bitter and acidic with an average duration. There was caramel, herbs and flowers, sugar water, syrup, floral and herbal hops, lots of spicy and peppery yeast, and honey. The medium body was rather and mostly syrupy then a little dry and sort of oily with very fizzy carbonation and a moderate to heavily astringent finish.

I guess it’s meant to be this hazy. Lightly tart and some estery yeast aroma grapes and gooseberries. Pretty thick with a slick mouthfeel and some booze. Pears in the finish there is the tiniest touch of elderflower musk in the aftertaste. The elderflower appears to have been blown out by the yeast.

Floral and citrus notes in the tart yeasty aroma. Hazy amber-tan body is topped by a fizzy white head that lasts well and recedes to a thick ring and partial cover. Flavour has a sugary sweet note up front that is quickly joined by tart yeasty citrus notes with herbal and spicy hop character long into the finish. Medium light body is quite strongly carbonated and really prickles the front of the tongue. Tulip glass. Allowed to warm from fridge temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in August 2012.

650 ml bottle. Pours a light amber with medium had that dissipates quickly. But lots of carbonation. Floral and fruity aroma - quite pleasant. Tangy tropical fruit flavor with light notes of Belgian yeast. Nice

Bottle at BCTC at the campsite. Pours a light hazed amber with a thin to medium sized white head. Soft floral notes, light sweetness. Medium bodied, a touch sweet, malty. Sweet and malty, floral, lingering mild sweetness. Sweet and tasty, yeast on the finish.

22oz bottle. Hazy orange/amber with a small off white head. Aroma of flowery perfume, zesty spices, lemon and some crackers. Flavor is spicy up front with some toasty and caramel malt and a light bitterness. Medium to light body with average carbonation. Decent beer, not overdone with the herbs/spices but about as much as I like.

daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 6, 2012
Amber color, light head. Aroma of yeast and some citrus/tropical fruit. The flavor has a berry note to it, a bit watery but still has a pretty clean and interesting flavor.

pours a very cloudy dark orange with no head. smell is of citrus, floral, some hops. taste is sweet up front, touch of sourness in the end, tangy on the tongue, hops, tangerine, and some malt in the back. end is thick and somewhat dry.

mcberko (17845) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 4, 2012
22 oz. bottle, split several ways, pours a hazy dark golden with a small white head. Aroma is very flowery, with not much traditional other saison-like characteristics, maybe some subtle Belgian yeast - seems quite dry. Flavour is quite floral / flowery as well, with some yeast more subtly. Quite refreshing, and while dry, it’s more sugary than a Belgian saison. Decent, but uninteresting like all the Apocalypse beers so far.

Pours a cloudy orange. The nose is floral, yeast, pepper, orchard and cold cellar. The flavor is apricot, apple with notes of floral, caramel and yeast. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
