Down, down, down Maelstrom will go, pulling the hapless beer enthusiast in with a beguiling blend of blood orange, Northwest hops and sweet orange peel. Stray to close and you may not escape the currents of this tender trap. Blood orange provides tartness and the blush of a brazen sea, Citra and amarillo hops from the Yakima Valley offer bite and aroma, and orange peel suggests a little something else on the wind. Maelstrom is brewed with pale, Munich and Dextri-pils malts bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished and dry-hopped with Citra and Amarillo.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a thick fluffy white head that leaves great lacing. Smells of orange, pine and caramel. Tastes of all the same things but the orange flavor stands out the most and it has a good hop bite. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with a dry finish. Overall this is a great beer, well balanced with great flavor. Of is the second best I?ve had from the Beers of the Apocalypse series so far.

From 22 ounce bottle. Golden in color, aroma of tropical fruits. Taste is hoppy with only a hint of the blood orange.

Pours a hazy yellow coulour with a little white lacing. Aroma off oranges! Smells great! Tastes just like it smell blood orange and grapefruit all the way! This is a really refreshing, nice drink! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a cloudy light orange/yellow with a medium white head. Aroma has fresh orange. Flavor is rindy but has some buttery notes...reasonably bitter. Mouthfeel is light/medium with a buttery earthy/bitter finish.

Had this at the stadium location before the Mens Room release party. Like every Elysian IPA this is damn good. Creamy texture and bursting with citrus hoppiness. Basically the orange citrus of the amarillos blends seamlessly with the subtle orange flavors. Tastes like an IPA and I love it.

On tap. Pours red/orange with white foamy head. PIneapple, orange, oak and ash (burnt remains, not the tree) aroma. Powerful citrus notes fight with the malt body, leaving an oddly off, sour taste that clings to your mouth and is hard to wash away.

White and frothy head. Hazy, orange-mocha body. Dry, grapefruit and orange flavor. Grainy, but really good. I really enjoyed it.

Tap at Elysian Fields, Seattle - 09/11/12. Very hazy light orange with reddish hues. Nose is bitter tropical fruits, pine, hops, orange. Tastes of dark bitter orange - lightly soured, orange pith, bitter grapefruit, pine, quite an all round tarteness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Decent, like an IPA meets sour.

Bookseeb (137) - Wenatchee, Washington, USA - NOV 20, 2012
Appearance is a hazy orange supporting a creamy head that subsides, but still available leaving fair lace. Aroma has a sweetness with the orange peel almost like a creamsicle with good whif of the hops. Taste has a big citric orange sweetness countered with a balance from the big hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonatrion. A very nice enjoyable stronge ale.

Bottle. Cloudy yellow orange color, fluffy white head. Aroma of citrus and straw. Taste is sour orange, bitter finish. Good body.
