COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Down, down, down Maelstrom will go, pulling the hapless beer enthusiast in with a beguiling blend of blood orange, Northwest hops and sweet orange peel. Stray to close and you may not escape the currents of this tender trap. Blood orange provides tartness and the blush of a brazen sea, Citra and amarillo hops from the Yakima Valley offer bite and aroma, and orange peel suggests a little something else on the wind. Maelstrom is brewed with pale, Munich and Dextri-pils malts bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished and dry-hopped with Citra and Amarillo.

Bottle:   Deep dirty straw, very thick, moderate to large frothy white head, decent lacing.   Very faint citrusy nose, perhaps a bit of pith and unsweetened grapefruit.   Not very bright.   On the tongue its also fairly non-descript, a bit of hops, semi-sweet pith, some grapefruit.   Nothing strong.   Seems to have a decent malt background, but other than that its light.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes clean, but very pedestrian and confused.   Or maybe thats me?

Nice orange peel and citrus notes on the nose, a little pale malt sweetness, a touch of toast. Pours amber golden, nice head and lace. Flavors of orange peels, nice citrus hops, pale malts, a hint of sweetness. Fruit is there in the finish and behind the base beer. I really enjoyed this, liked its citrus bitterness and frutiniess. Unique take on an apa. Nice.

22 oz bomber poured into an Elysian pint glass. Thanks to 5000 for sending me both. The beer pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the fruit. I get a lot of orange and grapefruit notes, which I assume comes from the blood oranges. I also get a little bit of biscuit malt in the aroma. The flavor is similar. I get some tartness and a hint of bitterness up front. Once again there is a lot of orange and grapefruit notes, as well as a hint of lemon. I get some biscuit malt and just the slightest hint of sweetness in the flavor. A very fruity, citrusy beer that goes down very easily. Thin to medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Still holding on to a couple of these bottles, I had to really convince myself that they have held up 3 years after the apocalypse. Sometimes all it takes is a couple "opening acts" to convince me to dust off a bottle and crack it. This here is one of those. Everything about the pour and flavor to me says that it has held up nicely. Love the labels on these by the way. Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a lasting oily fizz head. Very mild orange aroma. Flavor is quite juicy. Orange juice like flavor with some big citrus hop flavor, and mild bitterness finish. Juicy orange and grapefruit late into the palate. Pretty good beer, and very glad it’s still good through the last few. Very similar to the Super Fuzz blood orange pale they have going now. Overall, a pretty good beer. I’ll be convinced now that the other apocalypse beers i’m sitting on will be equally as good.

Tap @ Fifteenth Ave. Hophouse... Poured cloudy, pale orange with a thin head. Quite a bit of citrus here. Tasted of fermented Jolly Roger candies. Nice hop spice to balance. Somewhat drying, and full bodied. Good hoppiness with strong amount of orange citrus notes. A decent pair the two.

Draft at the stagshead. I swore of beer until I finished inputting backlog but that only lasted 2 days. Pours cloudy yellow orange with one finger soapy head. Orange and pine on nose. Tastes of blood orange, grapefruit, pine, resin, grassy, and light horse blanket. Dry on finish could use even more blood orange.

650 ml bottle. Pours a hazy yellow/gold with light head. Aromas of pine, malt, tropical fruit, and funk. Flavors of malt and orange juice. Snappy and refreshing.
