bubblegum, golden, hazy, light sweetness, light body, creamy, creamy. Great pour at Tangletown in Seattle. They refer to it as the bitch. Perfect match to an early summer. late spring sunny day.

I didn’t record the date of purchase, so I don’t know how old this bottle is, but it’s at least four years old. Most Belgian-style Tripels aren’t particularly long-lived in the cellar, so I’m surprised and amazed at how tasty and drinkable this beer is. This is terrific! The beer has lively carbonation when the cap is popped, so the hazy, golden-amber beer pours an inch of off-white head that settles to a thin, but unbroken blanket, leaving patchy lacing on the glass. The nose is aromatic with sweet, tropical fruit, bubble gum, a loaf of fresh bread, and lightly toasty malt that shows a touch of caramel. On the palate, expressive flavors of ripe, fleshy, tropical fruit, coconut, candi sugar, spice, and dried herbs in the entry are joined by a more yeasty, bready flavor in the finish. It’s moderately sweet, but not to the point of being cloying at all, and bitterness is pretty light. The weight is medium-full, with added body from residual sugar, and carbonation is medium-plus, but soft and velvety. Overall, this is a very nice Tripel that has aged superbly.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Hazy golden-straw. Good head, retention and lacing.
S: Yeasty citric character. Lemon, grapefruit. Some light spice.
T: Solid, but not terribly noteworthy. Yeasty. Light citric fruits over a slight biscuity malt body.
M: Moderate body. Bubbly. Clean finish.
O: Solid american tripel. Doesn’t quite have that true belgian taste that only a few american breweries can match.

Rattle’n’Hum: This was the best of the Elysian samplings in my view. Darker than expected for the style. Aroma reveals citrus and caramel/ dark cooked sugars. Tase, definition of balanced. Picked up a single 22-oz bomber from Malt & Vine via internet sales. Pours a hazy golden pale colored brew with a thick and lumpy white head that has excellent retention and sticky lacing throughout. Aroma of golden grain malt, candi sugar, some yeast, cloves, a touch of white pepper, and some banana esters. Taste is medium to full bodied, some carbonation with flavors of candi sugar, some cotton candy, golden grain malt, some banana esters and yeast. Finish is slightly yeasty, with some honey and candi sugar aftertaste. Overall it’s a nice sweet tripel.
