A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Previously 7.5%.

It’s a good Stout, but it tasted a bit lacking overall. Certainly there are much better Stouts available.

Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is mild vanilla, mild chocolate, roasted malts. Taste is thin chocolate with a lot of hoppy bitterness. Very surprised at the high ratings here. I found this boring, disjointed and sharp bitterness (was expecting something more creamy, smooth with the oats).

Purchased in a bomber while traveling through Montana, a pleasing acquisition. Tilting into my New Belgium .47l snifter it comes out a midnight black while giving a thin, small-bubbled head steadily replenished by active carbonation. I get a whiff of raspberry and a stiff hit of chocolate. Taking a taste it is all business, burnt toast, charcoal, semi-sweet chocolate and a distinct hop factor. It finishes moderately bitter, a gift from the hops. Different from most imperial stouts I have tasted, it is quite enjoyable.

Bottle from a Safeway on the road from Seattle to Spokane. Poured into a nice plastic cup, jet black with a lasting, foamy, beige head that leaves lacing. The aroma contains cold coffee, some milk, (roasted) malt, caramel and dark chocolate. It tastes medium chocolatey sweet and light to medium bitter with a toasty finish. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, well-hidden alcohol. A smooth, drinkable Imperial Stout.

Tastes of overly roasted malts and burned coffee. Has a small tan head that stick around. Appears pitch black. And smells of burnt grain

Draft @ Monarch, PDX. Aroma is roasty, sweet. Black color with tan head, good lacing. Taste is fantastic! Roasty, a little chocolate, balanced sweetness and bitterness. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, nice oat contribution. A fantastic imperial oatmeal stout!

beer_queue (147) - California, USA - NOV 7, 2016
Roasted, smoky malts & a bit of bitter chocolates in aroma. Tastes similar with some hop bitterness towards the end. Full-bodied & dry finish. Alcohol’s hidden. Gets slightly better once warm, but it’s still a very basic, mediocre imperial stout. Boring beer & struggled to finish it.

zvikar (6575) - Ramat Gan, ISRAEL - NOV 5, 2016
Black, chocolate aroma, caramel, toffee, bread, flavor of chocolate, caramel, toffee, coffee, bread, medium bodied.
