Draft 12 oz pour at the Tangletown location. Muddy copper color pour with a quick fade head. Good amount of spice on the aroma, paired with a sweet malt. Malt forward flavor with some ripe fruit. On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a clear dark copper amber with a small white head. Aroma is quite subtle and restrained, with toasted malts and a mild hop profile. Flavour is robust, with notes of caramel malts, roasted hazelnuts, and a nice resinous hop profile. Really well-balanced, robust and drinkable. Hazy red-amber color with compact head. Mild malt aroma. But the malt flavor is much better: lean and not too sweet, but almost the same profile of a Barley Wine, also a bit nutty; good bitterness level; quite elegant and clean.
On tap last night at Tangletown. Poured brown with a tiny white head. Nose of demerara sugar and hints of Earth. Flavor is real sweet like sweet plums up front. Nose of caramel sweetness, toffee, light roast, peppery earthy bitterness with jsut a hint of citrus as well. Pours darker amber, nice creamy beige-ish hread. The flavor is malty initially - caramel, toffee, toast, light roast followed by earthy peppery bitterness, a hint of citrus, and some residual sweetness in the finish. Smooth nice mouthfeel, creamy body, decent balance. A nice winter ale.
