Savant IPA :: Savant Just Knows It’s a Great Beer.

Without knowing quite why, Savant IPA knows a lot. It knows that it’s built on Northwest 2-row malt, with touches of Munich, Cara-red and C-120 Crystal. It knows that it weighs in at around 6.3% alcohol by volume, that it’s bittered with Northwest Chinook and finished with fruit-juicy New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. It knows that it’ll be back as the first Manic IPA from Elysian Brewing in the new year of 2014, available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. It knows that 22 ounces is the same as a touch over 650 milliliters (and 13012 drops for anyone who’s counting), but what it mainly knows is that it’s a great beer.

Bottle. Apricot aroma. Cloudy amber, low offwhite head. Grassy hops on a apricot fruity base. Slightly oily, dry suivin mouthfeel. Medium to light body.

A tasty IPA, fresh from Premier Gourmet. Pours abundant head on an orange coloured body. Smooth mouthfeel relative for an IPA. Fruity, some bubble gum, light apple, orange, grape. Not as much as possible flavour derived from this hop, but still pretty good.

Clear copperish amber with a thick foamy off-cream head. Sweet and sticky nose of grapefruit rind and oranges, with passion fruit and a touch of pine resin and caramel, with a slight biscuitiness. Flavor is citric and bitter with a bunch of orange rind, some slight grapefruitiness, floral bitterness, some sweet mango/tropical undertones, and a sweet caramalty body that still lets the hop bitterness shine through very well.

22 oz. bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours a pale caramel color with a 1-inch head. Forward citrus aromas. A rich, full-bodied mouthfeel with unmistakable grapefruit flavors and a bitter finish—but not overwhelmingly so. This is big flavor for only 6.3% ABV. I’m impressed.

3/21/13. 22oz bottle thanks to bitbucket. Hazy orange pour with a small khaki head. Laid back malty aroma and flavor with citrus and earthy hops. Maybe a touch of age. Not bad

I believe this is now called Savant IPA...pour is hazy orange with white head, aroma brought big notes of white fruits, pine, grass, some grapefruit, bitter orange peel, some slight caramel, toffee, slight earth, spice notes. Taste is a mix of lots of bitter orange, grapefruit, some slight pine, grass notes, hints of earth, grain, spice into some caramel, just slightly getting off the bitter notes, finishing bitter. Wish I got more of the Nelson hops, but its very tasty, good mouthfeel.

Sample at the Pike Street location (as "Savant IPA"). Pours a clear pale amber color with a medium bone white head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and caramel malt. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering citrus hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Long overdue to try this local. Pours a slightly murky golden color, moderate head, and a pretty big hoppy aroma with nice pineapple notes. Taste is moderately bitter with some nice hop complexity working in there along with a tasty malt backbone. Bigger and more complex beer than the 6.3 abv would suggest, which I always like. A nice local surprise that I should have tried long ago. Will definitely be coming back to this one.

Dark brown redish color. Hoppy aroma and slightly Carmel malty. Ends bitter smooth and slightly hoppy. Thinker
