Savant IPA :: Savant Just Knows Its a Great Beer.

Without knowing quite why, Savant IPA knows a lot. It knows that its built on Northwest 2-row malt, with touches of Munich, Cara-red and C-120 Crystal. It knows that it weighs in at around 6.3% alcohol by volume, that its bittered with Northwest Chinook and finished with fruit-juicy New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. It knows that itll be back as the first Manic IPA from Elysian Brewing in the new year of 2014, available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. It knows that 22 ounces is the same as a touch over 650 milliliters (and 13012 drops for anyone whos counting), but what it mainly knows is that its a great beer.

Bottle courtesy of Jason and Dawn. Thanks! Not much going on in the aroma department. Just a very slight citrus component. Earthy hop and biscuit malt flavors. Really faint citrus flavor. Overall a decent IPA.

(1pt 6oz bottle) Clear orange amber with a thick, smooth off-white head. Aroma of grass, floral notes, and fruit (tropical, mango, apricot, slight orange). Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Fairly strong sweetness, caramel and toffee, but strong hop bitterness dries it out; pine, grass; resiny; some vegetable and funky notes, too. A good IPA and a little bit different from most.

22 oz. bottle on 7/5/12. Pours a light copper color with an off-white head that settles to a thin film. Pine notes in the aroma along with spicy hops and sweet malt in the background. Medium/thin body, slight hop taste on the tongue. Leans a liittle to the malt side. Slghty dry finish. Worth trying.

Bight gold color, dense thick head and tons of laceing. Nice earthy hop grass nose. Dark feel on the tongue, good hops and citrus finish.

Pours an interesting dark orange color with an off-white creamy head. Striking hops that mellow, but there is a notable bitter finish

Cloudy dark copper. Citrus. Unique spicy hops. Very hoppy in every stage from aroma to aftertaste, but balanced.

Pours a reddish orange color with an off white thin head. Smells of pine and a bit of brown sugar. Nice roasted sugary tastes with heavy pine needles flavors. Good rounded beer. I am enjoying

Aroma is piny with tropical fruits - pineapple, mango, tangerine. Body is full, smooth, oily mouth feel. Well layered IPA with initial fruity flavors that fades into a grassy and lemony bitterness. Finish is long and bitter. Nice.

Pours hazy copper with a dirty white head. I cant really pinpoint any good descriptors in the nose, but its very hop forward. I do know that Im not the biggest fan of the hop, but that doesnt mean its bad. Theres enough malt to counteract what I dont enjoy. This is a fine beer but there are plenty Id rather drink.

Appearance: Pours an amber orange with an offwhite bubbly film.

Aroma: Huge tropical nose: pineapple mango tangerine. Brown sugar. Grapefruit oils.

Taste: Grapefruity hops. Pine. Caramel malt. Finishes with lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Juicy with moderate carbonation.

Overall: this is my kinda IPA. Delicious and smells great too.
