Savant IPA :: Savant Just Knows It’s a Great Beer.

Without knowing quite why, Savant IPA knows a lot. It knows that it’s built on Northwest 2-row malt, with touches of Munich, Cara-red and C-120 Crystal. It knows that it weighs in at around 6.3% alcohol by volume, that it’s bittered with Northwest Chinook and finished with fruit-juicy New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. It knows that it’ll be back as the first Manic IPA from Elysian Brewing in the new year of 2014, available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. It knows that 22 ounces is the same as a touch over 650 milliliters (and 13012 drops for anyone who’s counting), but what it mainly knows is that it’s a great beer.

Bomber bottle. Expected more hop aroma. Nice bitterness balanced with enjoyable malt profile. But in the end, meh, nothing outstanding or memorable, just another IPA.

hopdog (12953) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 26, 2014
On tap at Capone's. Poured an amber color with a thin sized off white head. Floral hops, some fruitiness, a bit toasty and a lighter sweetness.

On tap at Freshcraft. Orange amber appearance with a white head and light lacing. Aroma of pine, rye, fruity hops (citrus, tropical) and spicy hops. Similar flavor with moderate bitterness and a crisp, medium body. Pretty tasty.

Reddish cloudy color. Bitter finish but fairly balanced. I enjoyed it and would have again if I came across it, but wouldn’t seek it out as a gotta have.

3.3
NikkTwist (3302) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 23, 2014
Draft at Moriartys. Hazy dark orange pour with spotty off-white foam. Earthy and fruity. Plums and prunes. Spiced bark. Vanilla varnish. Gooseberry. Portobellos. Dark, sharp and jucy. Body feels a bit too watery though. Lasting spicy bite in the finish.

BEENJAMIN (290) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 20, 2014
It’s some what hard to write this review because once upon a time this beer was outstanding. I’ve followed it since it was first released and seen it morph into something that lacks the beautiful qualities it once had. Bummer, it’s just a basic hoppy redish beer.

beernovice39 (3270) - Idaho, USA - JAN 19, 2014
Bottle pours a hazy amber color with a thin white top. Nose is fruity. Taste is citrus, mild earthiness and fruit.
