Savant IPA :: Savant Just Knows It’s a Great Beer.

Without knowing quite why, Savant IPA knows a lot. It knows that it’s built on Northwest 2-row malt, with touches of Munich, Cara-red and C-120 Crystal. It knows that it weighs in at around 6.3% alcohol by volume, that it’s bittered with Northwest Chinook and finished with fruit-juicy New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. It knows that it’ll be back as the first Manic IPA from Elysian Brewing in the new year of 2014, available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. It knows that 22 ounces is the same as a touch over 650 milliliters (and 13012 drops for anyone who’s counting), but what it mainly knows is that it’s a great beer.

Based upon the other good reviews of this brew, I think I had a bad pint, which is totally plausible, as it was at a questionable restaurant at the beach. Tasted stale and old, slight hop, but not much else.

Bomber. Sweet passion fruit and citrus aroma with some hops. Pours cloudy amber colored with a thick of white head with good lacing. Passion fruit and some citrus to start with dry, hoppy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(22oz bottle) Pours a hazy golden orange body with a small white head. Aroma of grain, florals, dusty, and wet dried grass/weeds. Flavor of florals, earth, grass, and dank with a dry, bitter, and quite dirty finish.

(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye) clearish gold, soapy clear head. Nose of caramel, honey, candied citrus peel, quite malty, belgian yeast. Taste of bong water, weed, caramel, umami, peppercorn, medium body, dry finish.

Dry with a hoppy finish. Needs more malt to balance the hoppy profile. Very drinkable but I would not rush out to buy again.

Jaune doré avec une mousse blanche moyenne. L’arôme d’agrumes (beaucoup d’orange). Le goût est d’agrumes avec un amertume d’houblon en finale. Carbonation moyenne.

Pours brown with some head and lacing. Much sweeter than I would prefer. Notes of cereal, nuts, dark fruit, apricot and grapefruit bitterness. Not really my style.

Drank from a bottle at the 20th Mondial de la Bière, May 30, 2013. Honey copper, small head. Citrus hoppy aroma, notes of sweet spice. Taste very dry hops, a little spicy, very bitter. Good but under average!

On tap at the Knick. Hoppy nose with notes of pear and apricot. Sweet notes. Medium amber, hazy with thin white lacing head. Medium body with medium-light carbonation. Starts sweet with fruity esters. Fairly bitter finish with sweet eatery after. Very nice IPA with big hop profile but not a harsh bitterness in the finish or after.

Elysian really does IPAs well. Pours a light gold with thick white head. Nice floral aroma, however not overwhelming. Taste a lot of fruit, slight bitter finish. Another solid IPA from this brewery.
