Savant IPA :: Savant Just Knows It’s a Great Beer.

Without knowing quite why, Savant IPA knows a lot. It knows that it’s built on Northwest 2-row malt, with touches of Munich, Cara-red and C-120 Crystal. It knows that it weighs in at around 6.3% alcohol by volume, that it’s bittered with Northwest Chinook and finished with fruit-juicy New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. It knows that it’ll be back as the first Manic IPA from Elysian Brewing in the new year of 2014, available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. It knows that 22 ounces is the same as a touch over 650 milliliters (and 13012 drops for anyone who’s counting), but what it mainly knows is that it’s a great beer.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Central Market in Mill Creek, WA. Unfortunately, my nose is a little stuffed, so I won’t be able to give my best effort....but I couldn’t wait to try it. Pours a lovely dark amber color with an off-white head. Aroma: Grapefruit and a sweet smell. Flavor: Same as the aroma, with sweet malt.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours clear copper with a creamy/bubbly beige head. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit. Seems guava to me. Near full bodied. Lots of floral and fruit. Not exactly guava but close. Also grapefruit rind. There’s some light caramel for backbone. It’s marvelously hoppy and bitter.

Bomber. Pours clear deep copper with 3-finger creamy off-white head and copious lace. Looks great. Nose is that great citric feety passion fruity Nelson Sauvin hop, some caramel malt. Tastes very resiny, bitter, and with the characteristic NS hop flavor, with caramel malt, and finishing resiny notes. A lot of late passion fruit.

Very good look, lots of lace, copper color. Gray amount of head. Lots of citrus, tropical fruits and some pine. Flavor is much of the same with a solid malt backbone providing the sweetness to balance the hops. Michel it’s a medium, with soft carbonation that gives the beer a nice feel. Very drinkable, a solid offering from elysian.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2013 Shared bottle at eTap on Howe St in Vancouver. This is very highly tilted toward hops. Citrus hop flavors predominate, but there’s a malted aftertaste as well. Maybe the best hoppy IPA I’ve ever had!

Fresh sample on tap at Malone’s in Vancouver. A turgid and murky brew of a brownish orange cast. Big grapefruit flavour here, though no one’d ever mistake this for a grapefruit cooler. All beer here, friends. Still a great one!

From a bomber. Beautiful bright orange pour with a thick rocky white head. The aroma is gorgeous. Bright tropical fruit, grapefruit and some juicy fruit aroma over a lovely rich pale malt base. A touch of spice that rounds out the sweeter fruity notes on the back. Bright and zesty with a distinct whiff of peach as well. Awesome stuff.

Clear copperish amber with a thick foamy off-cream head. Sweet and sticky nose of grapefruit rind and oranges, with passion fruit and a touch of pine resin and caramel, with a slight biscuitiness. Flavor is citric and bitter with a bunch of orange rind, some slight grapefruitiness, floral bitterness, some sweet mango/tropical undertones, and a sweet caramalty body that still lets the hop bitterness shine through very well.

22 oz Bomber. The beer pours to mostly clear orange color. The aroma has citrus / floral notes to it. The taste has a light body with a nice bitter finish. Overall a good IPA.

Murky orange pour. Thin, off white head with very little carbonation. Hoppy taste on the front and back in. Good example of the style.

22FL OZ ($4.99 Bottle) this was a very very good IPA. I have only had a few IPAs i can say are better. This is the most well rounded I’ve had in recent history. Find it, drink it, love it, you won’t regret it.
