pours a jet black with a small beige head, and good lacing.
smell of cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, spice, and orange peel.
taste is smooth and creamy, cocoa, some smoke, spice, a perfume aftertaste, and roasted malts, ends somewhat bitter. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - MAR 11, 2010
draft at elysian fields. pours a murky grainy black with a dense, creamy off white head that really sticks around. tons of lace. the bubbles look like they might never pop if you leave this beer undisturbed. big forward minty cardamom nose...unmistakable but pleasant and appealing. creamy medium body, pleasantly firm carb. roasty sweet brown bread mid palate with plenty of minty cardamom. i dont know that any beer has ever showcased cardamom, or even any other herb or spice, quite so succinctly as does this one. pleasant and unforgettable, but not exactly sessionable. creamy dryish minty cardamom finish. gracefullypunk (667) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 11, 2010
On tap at the brewery. Elysian’s specials just keep getting better. This one has an aroma filled with chocolate, spice, biscuit and a hint of citrus. The taste is rich, with a bit of smoke, chocolate, toasted malt, spice and plenty of cardamom. Creamy palate. Quite nice.cprochak (590) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 13, 2009

I very much enjoyed this porter, a deep brown pour with a smooth mouthfeel. Aromas are vanilla, caramel, a peppery spice, chicory and of course cardamon. The cardamon was a great addition, enhancing the flavors of molasses, orange, and caramel and lingering for a bit at the end.
On Tap at Elysian Fields for SBW. Pours super dark brown with mocha head. Cardamom is the dominant aroma but chocolate and smoke are also present. Cardamom dominates as you drink but the sweet roasted malts are present. Unfortunately, it’s dry on the tongue and has a long bitter finish. Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - JUN 23, 2009
Draft at RNH. Pours a mahogany body with a tan head. Dark spiced chai tea, shrub, herbal green character, and some pepper spice. Burnt tree bark and smoked licorice. Strangely awesome.

Draft @ brewpub. Is black-brown with scattered lacing. BIG cardamom and big smoke aroma! 100% unique. The flavors marry so well and they linger on the tongue. The cardamom is such a delight. The smoke really makes it shine. This one is truly impressive. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 8, 2009
On tap at Elysian Capitol HIll. Enjoyed this while philosophizing on the state of women’s sports and lesbianism with a couple classmates. We were also attempting to figure out which girls from class were lesbians. I am a grad student in Sports Administration and we concluded the sports with the highest influx of lesbians are: softball and basketball. Disclaimer: I love everyone and have no problem with lesbians. Beer pours muddy brown with a beige creamy head. The aroma is an interesting mix of chocolate, roasted malts, and spice - cardamom and coriander I think. Rather spicy almost reminded me of something I probably had at Pumpkinfest. The flavor is initially filled with spice then followed by tasty earthy roasted notes. As the beer warms the spice works very well with the roast and softens a bit. Roast and chocolate are predominant after it warms and the beer has an earthy dry finish. Smooth light carbonation Interesting yet enjoyable. carruthm (1401) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 10, 2009
On tap at fields for SBW. Clear dark brown hue with an aroma heavy on anise, licorice, jagr, cardamon. slightly biscuity. taste is clean with a light bitterness. bb (9621) - Alamo, California, USA - APR 12, 2010
Draft. Dark amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Light spice and rich malt aroma. Spice, chocolate, and rich malt flavor. Medium bodied. Malt, spice, and light chocolate notes linger. bvc (1242) - Washington, USA - MAR 9, 2010
Draft at Elysian Fields. Black with a dark brown hue to it and a creamy tan head. Nose is lightly sweet with some cocoa, orange and a touch of coffee. Roasted malt and very noticable cardamom. Light roast, mocha and a touch of orange and cola up front. The cardamom comes in toward the end and the finish is somewhat dry, earthy and peppery.
