COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Makana Imperial Porter Imperial Porter ABV: 8.0%, IBUs: 40 The honeymoon is over... The idea for this beer was a parting gift from the Hawaiian islands, where craft breweries large and small all brew some rendition of a dark beer with native coconut. This imperial porter is backed by C45, Black, kiln coffee, & chocolate rye malts, bittered with Simcoe & GNB to a subtle balance, and finished with over a pound of hand-toasted coconut per barrel. Post fermentation, it was conditioned on vanilla beans, adding another layer of ono. This beer will surely ease the pain of reality when back on the mainland.

Has some nice vanilla, but it does make the beer a bit sweet. Ok, on the palate I get a blast of vanilla and a touch of astringency.

Draft at Maxís. clear deep maroon color, tiny beige edge head. Aroma of sweet mill chocolate. Taste is intense Hersheyís syrup. One of the chocolatiest beers Iíve ever tried. And yes, that is a word. It is now, anyway.

Had on tap at Max's in Baltimore. Pours a very dark brown. Roast and chocolate on the nose. Flavor is sweet chocolate. A bit too sweet. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Draft pour at 2sp..didnít realize how much a treat this was until later...what a tasty imperial porter..pours a dark brown blackish hue with a nice little creamy ecru head..nose of espresso and cold press coffee that is evident as things warm up a bit..also getting some smooth roasted malt intertwined with vanilla and toasted coconut..wow..mouthfeel is as good as it gets with the style so smooth coconut is perfectly done and toasted perfection..nice lacing left all around..lingering mild sweetness that isnít overdone with a clean slick mouthfeel..shit this is a tasty offering..very well done and absolutely delicious..well done elysian.very worth seeking out..
