This beer has a hazy, amber-brown body with a small, off-white head that dissipates within a few minutes. The nose is decidedly malt, with caramel, toast, toffee, and cocoa. On the palate, the toffee, caramel, lightly sweet cocoa, and raisin are immediate, but the flavors of dry, toasted bread, cut grass, mild earthiness, and gentle bitterness provides a good counterpoint to the sweeter flavors, although, to be clear, this isnít all that sweet to begin with. Itís medium-plus in weight, medium in carbonation, finishes relatively dry for a Bock, and is very smooth. Overall, this is a pretty solid and very enjoyable beer. Bocks can be too sweet at times, but this beer offers a really nice, balanced profile that makes the beer quite easy to drink.

Clear dark caramel color with lasting ivory sheen. Mild toffee, dark bread, dark fruit aromas. medium body with soft co2. Sharp caramel, toffee, toasty, fruity flavors--nicely bitter finish--good.
Draught at Elysian Brewing Company on Pike St.corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 7, 2012
Dark amber color. Light caramel aroma and stronger caramel flavor, but they are a bit dusty, not very malty; correct bitterness.
It doesnít really taste like a true German Bock, but itís still a solid drinkable beer.
Draft at the brewpub in Seattle.
Pours a dark amber color with golden orange edges and a one finger off white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. †Sporadic streaks and spots of lacing left behind.
Sweet malt aroma with subtle grassy hops. †Hints of caramel, light chocolate, toffee, rye and hazelnut balanced by spicy, grassy hop notes.
Medium bodied with a stronger earthy, herbal hop presence than expected. †Very herbal/medicinal with dry, earthy pine that overpowers the sweet malt notes a bit too much for my liking. †Hints of rye, caramel and toffee provide balance but I wish that it was tilted in the other direction. killjoy966 (677) - Washington, USA - JUL 24, 2012

On tap at Tangletown. Pours brown with an off-white head. Fruity nose. Not very german. Raisins and prunes. Medium body. Weird finish that seems more belgian than german. riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - MAY 6, 2009
On tap at Elysian Fields. Aroma is very malty. Chocolate, caramel, a touch of light hops. Pours dark brownish with a thin head. Sweet flavors of chocolate, caramel, toast, a little dark fruity notes, and a light bitterness in the finish that cleans it all up. A little earthy. Did not get any french oak notes at all. I am not the biggest fan of sweet malty lagers - except malt liquor!
