Smoky bandaid aroma. first aid when camping. some white oak. lingering mild smoke, so easy to drink, clean and subdued sip after sip. very satisfying Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 14, 2010
Draft and Naked City. Golden pour with a loose white head on it. Smells a little sweet, but is mostly loaded up with smokey bacon and jerky meatiness. I really found this beer to be a joy to drink. Has a nice rich feel in the mouth while not being a weighty beer. Tastes of bready malt and mild and balancing earthy, green hop flavors, with a rich smoked meat flavor that comes in halfway and sticks with you. The more smoked beers I have, the more I fall in love with the style. No exception here. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - APR 18, 2010
Draft at Capitol Hill. Pours a medium gold, almost crystal clear, with a loose and sudsy fish-eyed whitish head. Plenty of steadily rising nucleation columns. Mild sweet bready malts on the nose, some herbal hop, and a decent amount of bacon. Creamy medium body, some lively carb. Plenty of bacon showing through on the mid-palate, but not dominant. The herbal and bready notes make a nice complement to it. The bacon builds in intensity through the finish, picking up some campfire on the way. This is a heavier beer than the Schlenkerla Helles, and more flavorful, but quite a bit milder than the Marzen in both respects. A great niche for a great smoked to occupy. I will drink this like crazy whenever it’s on. bvc (1242) - Washington, USA - MAR 10, 2010
Draft at Capital Hill. Pours a deep honey golden with a creamy looking white head. Nose is pure meaty smoke with some light fruit sweetness....smells damn good. Body a some good feel and creaminess to it. Nice light bread with great smoke throughout and the cherry smoke really noticable. One of the best, if not the best, Elysian beers I’ve ever had; please brew this again! Oakes (18167) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 3, 2010
Golden with a thin head. One of the paler rauchbiers I’ve ever had. Lively smoke aroma - it’s cherrywood - with clean bread notes underneath. Rich smokiness, balanced with creamy helles. The cherrywood is absolutely fantastic - lively and dynamic with a lot of complexity. Very clean and very moreish. I killed my pint with a quickness.

Rich gold with thick creamy head on this smoked lager. Pleasant, heavily smoked wood nose. However, these qualities are not so highly treasured in flavor. Characterized by an intensely smoked, meaty flavor that perhaps makes for a better cooking ingredient than a drinking beer. This becomes more palatable as the palate adjusts.
