Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, smoked meat and salt. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and light salty. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Emelisse’s take on the much-debated Grätzer style, apparently a collab with Nögne Ö, though this is not mentioned anywhere on the label. Pours a cloudy ’old gold’ colour, cloudy ochre with deposit, adorned with a moussy, medium thick, egg-white head retaining thinning quickly but retaining well. Interesting aroma: fresh sorrel acetaldehyde, goat cheese, subtle smoked herring or even barbecue sausage accent, old apple juice, grilled bacon, chalk, soapy wheat, cooked rhubarb, sourdough, stale sweat, old dry sherry, green apple peel. Refreshing taste starting with a crisp, clean but soft and gentle lemony acidity, sour berries, kiwano, unripe peach, soft carbo, light umami accent of fresh green olives, supple maltiness, clearly wheaty (soapy and softly sourish) with a bready accent, some light smokiness retronasally, juicy finish with ongoing wheatiness and mild, gently drying acidity, a bit cava- or dry white wine-like rather than puckering sour; a soft but very notably chalky and somewhat soapy flavour remains after swallowing. Hops are very subdued, not providing any bitterness. I find it exciting that this brewery embarked on a style which is only recently being revived, but according to what I have read about it and compared with the few examples of it I had so far, I dare to doubt whether they got it right: if I have to believe the historical accounts relating to how the original Grätzer - or, more accurately, Grodziskie - was brewed, this should have been made with smoked wheat instead of smoked barley plus wheat, should have been ’cleaner’ (less estery), less (or even not at all) sour and should have been hoppier. Seems closer to a Lichtenhainer to me (seen the sourness) but then, both are under the same heading here and who said this brew was intended to be a historically accurate evocation of the Grodziskie style anyway... Apart from style, I must say I enjoyed this, it cleanses the palate with its soft sourness, but still shows some complexity and depth due to the (light) smokiness. In cases like this, I prefer to let my personal enjoyment prevail in my rating, rather than nitpicking over style accuracies. 33cl bottle, merci tderoeck for this nice extra! Dirty straw dishwater pour, emitting much-welcomed wafts of: lemon-spiked smoked trout in salt crust on clay, soggy wheats. Very watery, OK for the style and abv, gentle pillowy mouthfeel. Taste is less intense though in the same register as aroma, falling off quickly at the mid part. Quite drinkable for the style, this cooperation between two craft brewing beacons of coast-spoiled nations, but not quite as characteristic as Freigeist’s Abraxxxas or refreshing as Ritterguts Gose. worldbeertaste (1805) - West Midlands, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2015
I’m not a fan of this style of beer. I find the aftertaste of veg sickening and the smell of dirty socks uninteresting. It doesn’t pull me in and make me want to drink it. But its not all bad. Light hazy pale gold, small frothy white head, recedes after a short while, light lacing; light sour aroma, lemon, wheat, herbal notes; complex taste, light sour, lemony, slightly sweet, smoky notes, bit salty; light body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation; light sour aftertaste, herbal notes; a strange brew, but refreshing.

Almost clear pale gold beer, small off white head. Palate is light and dry, mild fine carbonation. Thin pale malts, tangy mild citrus. Little sour vibe and something smoky and pukey, Dry finish. Never going to love this style I expect!
Robe blonde abricot, plate, très peu de mousse qui disparait très vite. Nez de fumée et de citron. Bouche très interessante : aigre, fumée, citron, épices (le saaz sans doute), un peu piquante (!?). Bottle. Brewtique, Macclesfield. Clear gold. Halo of white. Smoked malt. Brine. Some tart, goats milk cheesiness. Taste is a little tart, and dry. Crisp palate. Some acidity. Finishes a little tart, salty, and dry. A bit odd, but I did quite like this.
