In short: A roasted, very oaky and very harsh stout. Meh
How: Bottle 330ml at Bishops Arms Järntorget, Göteborg Sweden
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head
In long: Nose has a lot of oak, some nail polish remover and some roast. Intense and somewhat unsettling aroma. Taste is harsh roasted malts, grainy sensation, aggressive oak presence, metallic flavor, a shot of whisky, burnt pastry, chocolate cake icing. Boozy and astringent finish. Harsh from beginning to finish. I needed over 30 minutes to work through a little 330ml bottle. Maybe not as bad as my description makes it to be, but this is not very drinkable. And a bit expensive too. Not sure why I bought this beer, not the first time I am disappointed by Emelisse. I may never learn from my mistakes and unfortunately lawyers will continue to earn from them.
10/5/2011 11:41:22 AM Bottle from Bierkoning. Another explosive Emelisse white label! Dark black body with thin brown head. Nose of rich molasses, caramel, roast and chocolates. Taste is chocolates, spices, malts, some vanilla and milk. Whisky also comes through very nice. A bit sweeter and dragging than the perfect peated Jack Daniels, but still very, very good.KansaiBeerLvrs (5090) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 12, 2015

Bottle from Bierkoning. Perfect dark black with tan head. Nose of chocolate, coffee, alcohol, yeast. Taste is caramel, dark fruits, some coffee, and sweet berry notes. Really, really nice. Quite enjoyed the syrupy texture and smoky, bitter finish. Hats off!
Bottle through a trade with Seb drunk side by side with the regular Russian Imperial Stout. Emelisse Russian Imperial Stout 11% Laphroaig Barrel Aged Variant
Viscous black with red highlights, possibly slightly lighter in color than than the regular.
Laphroaig, oak, medicinal, sherry & berries. Med-full bodied. The taste is peat smoke, oak, vanilla, mesquite & tarry chocolate. Subtle smoke. Habanero (4637) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK, DENMARK - SEP 8, 2015
Bottled. Pours black with an average, creamy and tan head. Aroma of hard roasted malt, chocolate, whiskey and peat. Sweet flavor that end up dry, with alcohol notes and slightly bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft to flat carb. A very nice impy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Theydon_Bois (19189) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2014
Bottle at home, from the De Molen Shop, 16/02/14.
Pours light black with a moderate tan covering that dissipates to spotting and edgework.
Nose is subtle Laphroaig, dark toffee fudge, brown sugars, light cocoa.
Taste comprises light medicinals, ash, smoke, Laphroaig, pretty thin for the ABV.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, very thin and a little watery for a 10% + impy, not often I score palate less than 3 but this beer is deserving.
Overall a strange one, doesn’t look or feel the part however as a smoked whisky impy the flavours are well integrated and the Laphroaig doesn’t dominate and take over like some others do. Can’t believe it’s 11% though, strangley thin on the palate!
I waited for this to warm a little in the hope it would deliver more - it didn’t ! Moolesen (536) - NETHERLANDS - JAN 14, 2014
Bottle 33 cl. Number 6 of a range of 7 Emelisse IRS. What an evening... Almost no head. Aroma of coffee and liquorice. This beer was a disappointment. I know Laphroaig whisky. It is very peated, and I expected this to be present in the beer, but no. It is a good barrel aged beer, but not representative for Laphroaig.

Bottle at home. Pours black with no head. Aroma of whiskey and alcohol, roasted malts, and coffee. Overwhelming whiskey taste with a warming alcohol feel. Perhaps a bit too much whiskey. TrappistenOli (320) - Bern, SWITZERLAND - OCT 10, 2013

This is one of Emelisse’s best white labels, a nearly perfect beer. Such a diverse, rich, deep and lovely taste. Really amazing.
