If there was no label on this I would say it’s a Doppelbock. Sweet and smokey. Looks awful, like a bad home-brew but beauty is only skin deep. A rich, sticky palate, no carb’. I was surprised on reading other reviews that no-one picks up the smokey aromas that jump out with the ripe fruit notes. A beer that hesitates between styles but is very pleasant.

like a betonstrijker, sweet and worty, sugar, spices full sweet body way to sweet

Bosskie (883) - NETHERLANDS - DEC 16, 2014
Dark ruby coloured beer, slightly opaque, with a weak head. Smell is strong sweetness, pears, caramel, touch of pepper and cumin. Taste is clear, overwhelmingly sweet and alcoholic. Bit of sourness with a bitter finish.

Trappist1 (646) - Diest, BELGIUM - DEC 3, 2014
From tap @ Den Hulst. Dark brown with a brown head. nose: perfume of chocolate, marshmellows, some dark malts in the back. taste: toffee, dark roasted malts, marshmellows. MF: bit sticky, sweet, but bitter ending. Okey beer, good for a bry, definititely not for an e03/12/2014vening. bit off the good.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at Proeflokaal Arendsnest. A heavy and fun brew. Milk chocholate, rye bread and ginger bread dough.

33cl. Bottle.
Pours black with tan head.
Aroma sweet, chocolate, chocolate milk, milk, vanilla, some roasted malts.
Taste very sweet, chocolate.
Mouthfeel creamy, thick.
Great beer.

Nocturne (1992) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - OCT 17, 2014
330ml bottle. Dark brown with plenty of head. Getting some marshmallow in the aroma but it’s clashing against dark malty notes, so it gets a bit overshadowed. Less of it in the taste, where spices come to dominate things. Light chocolate and forest fruits. Reasonably successful but a bit muddled at times. Also a hard one to pigeonhole style-wise.

Holy moly, this is marshmallow. Fine after a taste or two, but don’t try drinking a whole glass of this. A dessert among dessert beers. Tried at the Arendsnest in 2014.

Bah.
