330 ml bottle bought yesterday at Sonoma Cellars in Delavan, WI. I so rarely see truly old or retired beers around here that I didnt bother to look - hadnt heard of this anyway and, hey, a smoked beer I havent had! Looks like its dated 2013 so 3 years which could be anywhere from negligible to ruinous in its effect, well see. Sampled at cellar temp in an Andeker stem glass...pours a very murky umber, with a small-to-moderate off-white head that fizzles down to a thin ring quickly...some nice woodsmoke in the nose, a little cheese, and this fairly well tamps down the noticeable oxidization; overall its pleasant enough if obviously a bit past due...on the tongue theres a nice woody, smoky and burnt character as well which carries through to the rather bitter and dry finish; sweetness also, a bit of brown sugar and a touch of raisin and, with some warmth, a bit of chocolate at the end...the oxidation is really not so apparent when tasting, and the body is amazingly full and rounded, though perhaps softer and just a little less carbonated than it would have been fresh. This is no masterpiece, and I doubt it would have been at 3 or 6 months instead of 3 years, but it is quite enjoyable and Id certainly buy it again if it were made available.

Wonderfully smokey aroma. Smoke continues on the palate, but doesn't overwhelm the overall malt balance. Nice medium dark color. A great exemplar of this style! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Probably a pretty old bottle. Murky cola colored pour with a small off white head. Aroma had nice notes of caramel, sweet fruit, subtle hints of smoke. Flavors were slightly more smoky with nice notes of caramel and candied fruit. Lingering smoke in the finish yet slightly sweet overall. Slick mouthfeel with lightish carbonation. Good chance this is past its prime but I dig the smoke nonetheless.

Poured from an 11.2 OZ bottle into a pint glass. This beer is a murky brown color with an off-white head. The aroma and flavor gas a nice smoky texture. A really good beer.

Bottle shared on the train Euston -> Birmingham, Cotteridge convention, 24/01/2015. Picked up at the Brewery with a couple of years age on the bottle. Aroma is big tcp, phenol, smokey bacon. Reddy / caramel colourd pour with a lasting off whte head. Flavour is sweet caramel, honey glazed ham, smokey phenols, less medicinal in the flavour. Palate is semi-sweet, moderate carbonation. Decent for the age, lasted pretty well.

Old rating. Dark red brown. Smoked ham, slight campfire, but a nice sweeter malt base to balance. Good Rauch.
