Bottle. Pours hazy and particulate tawny with a large, frothy light tan head, medium-long retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy bacon/smoked meat with caramel and toasted malt and light fruity esters. Flavor is moderate malt with a heavy dose of smoked meat. Lightly smoky smell. Medium brown and very cloudy. Unfiltered. Beige, creamy head. A bit muddy flavour. Also overripe/rotten fruit. Not too much smokyness to be noticed. Aftertaste is quite bitter. Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Off-white head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Smoked oak aromas. Medium bodied with sweet charred caramel front to back and into the lasting finish.

Small light yellowish head on top of a cloudy dark orange colored beer.
Smell coal, smoke, reminds me of some campfire and bbq smell.
Taste is a good mix of smoke, bbq, coal, meat, smoked malts, bitter, some herbs and some sticky malts and honey.
Aftertaste of smoke, malts and some herbs.

bottle... light murky copper, off white head, light colored for a rauch... smells rather nice, smokey pork, salt, wood chips, smells great... the taste is equal nice some great smoked pork but its a touch watery and a boring finish... a pretty solid rauch one of the better beers by this brewery BAM_Lee (1) - Berkeley, California, USA - AUG 10, 2011 does not count
Picked up in a good bottle shop a few months back. Hazy amber, off-white head that fades fast, Smokey-bacony aroma with hints of toast and pears. Smoke defines flavor, with nice toasty malt and low/just balancing bittering. A touch of papery oxidation (likely from age & travel). A touch of acetaldehyde/green apple. Soft smoke on the palate. Medium body, slightly sweet, less so than some rauchs. Very nice, a worthwhile salute to the Franconian rauchbiers, Not as rich, or as pungent as some, but a fresh example of this would be very close and a nice sipper. Looks fair, orange hazy body but head is a little strange, off white. Bacon. I can’t really get much beyond that bacon smell (which is a problem with the whole style for me). Maybe some light fruit (mandarin). Taste not as extreme. Bitter but smooth still,maybe the caramel sweetness doing its work. Fun drink and nice within the style.
