33cl bottle. BB 12/15. Mahogany colored, thin white head, very thin. Low carbonation, small bubbles. Oh the aroma; bourbon, wood, sweetness, plums as well as some slight sticky alcohol as well. Very inviting. Flavor has sweetness, bourbon notes, vanilla, wood. Long finish with vanilla and bourbon. Alcohol coming through a little but mostly hidden. Excellen!t brew! Awesome sipper. Great balance. jerohen (2296) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - FEB 23, 2014
Bottled, thanks to Arjen for sharing. Red brown colored, very small head. Powerful nose, wood, bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, malts, liquor, some caramel. Caramel malty flavor, lots of alcohol, bourbon, vanilla, sweetness. Quite unrefined, the alcohol is overwhelming. It may get better with some (decades of) aging, but in the current condition i don’t think i could finish a whole bottle of this. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 11, 2014
Bottle (thanks to BelgBeerGeek for this and hannont for brining this across the pond)... Poured deep amber/brownish with a thin head. Intense whiskey and oak aroma. Smooth caramel toasted sweetness. Hints of bourbon, vanilla, malted grains and more sweetness. Quite complex with a full lingering finish. PotjeBier (3351) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - JAN 10, 2014
33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning. Had the regular version just days ago. Red-brown color with some stuff floating in it. Little or no head. Aroma’s of sweet red fruit, oak, vanilla, liquor, a bit of toffee. Retronasal there’s more toffee, whiskey, vanilla, wood, red fruit, well balanced. Flavor is sweet, alcoholic, toffee, a hint of bitterness. Alcohol feel is quite strong, warming. Mouthfeel is soft, low carbonation. Full bodied. Finishes moderate bitter but also still sweet. Much better than the regular version (which was already good). Love this. skortila (5875) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - JAN 6, 2014
Bottle, full bottle (33cl) sample. The aroma has overripe prunes, cookies, oak/bourbon. Hazy, dark brown coloured with a thin/medium off-white head. Lots of crap parts floating around though. Guess that’s the only minus point. The taste is sweet caramelly and evolves more bourbon-warming towards the end. Why am I drinking this now? It is winter though extremely hot for the time of year. Anyway, it is just very delicious. Probably in other times I would find the bourbon a bit too much, but for now it is okay I think. Besides barley wines just need a good barrel for complexity. Carbonation is low-medium, body is medium-full with the bourbon blanket on top. Nice.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2014 bottle at home for my 500th review. bought a bottle for just 3 euro’s. poured a orange amber colour with a non lasting head. bourbon hits the nose while pouring. lot of vanilla, sweet caramel, almonds, oak, milky smooth mouthfeel, only bad thing about it is that the bourbon is to overwelming for a barley wine. balance is a bit gone by the intense bourbon hit
I need to re-rate this! boy this beer is insane! got it served after 1.5 hour in the fride. the bourbon combination with the vanilla is insane! tommann (3754) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - DEC 25, 2013
330ml bottle. Pours dark orange brown with a small head. Aroma is minty bourbon with a little caramel. Taste has bourbon and toffee to start with a strong bourbon and alcohol finish. caesar (7162) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - DEC 21, 2013
Bottled, BB dec 2015, large sample. Clear orange to amber color with loads of debris floating around, short frothy head. Aroma of huge vanilla and bourbon, cookie, biscuit. Vanilla milk shake. Actually its way overdone, but I love it nonetheless. Taste has lots of vanilla and banana sweetness together with biscuit and cookie dough again. This could be a Ben & Jerry’s icecream flavor easily, and one of their bestsellers Id say. Slight alcohol burn in the finish. It’s a barley wine overpowered by bourbon, or a bourbon watered down with a barley wine. Either way, it does the trick for me. Lovely stuff. lusikka (7813) - Tampere, FINLAND - DEC 17, 2013
330 ml bottle.OllieBBommel (1531) - NETHERLANDS - DEC 13, 2013
Pours a copper colour with a small thick white head. Aroma of rich caramel sweetness, butterscotch, bourbon, vanilla and strong wooden notes. Flavour is very rich and thick with caramel, massive bourbon notes, plums, very elegant wooden tartness, green apples and vanilla. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a very long sharp finish with strong dried fruity notes. A big beer.
