Level 42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Danny. Almost clear dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and a little soft, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, a little malt cream and mild dark chocolate. Smooth coffee. Mild spice. Tangy fruits. Smooth dry finish brings a little alcohol spice. Nice, not picking up to much of the peaty barrel.
July 2017 - Bottle share at Mr Tipple 5K, Canary Wharf. As 'Emelisse White Label Coffee Stout (Bruichladdich)', 2015 vintage. Wasn't sure whether to open this young to get the coffee character or aged to let the peat vibes become more complex. Turns out that the peat is very light, so this one maybe should have been opened fresh. Anyway, it pours almost opaque black, slightest red hue, foamy brown head leaves light lacing. Aroma is spicy, black pepper, charred bell pepper, chocolate liqueur. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is chocolate, ashy, very light peat smoke, soft coffee. Good. Bottle shared on Level 42 26/07/2017. Many thanks to Daniel for this one. A black dark brown coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Aroma is Boosty, peat, whisky, brown sugars, mellow roast. Flavour is composed of semi sweet nutty brown sugars, Boosty, whisky, boozy, mellow peat, whisky, cakey malts, tangy boozy fruit. Palate is medium full bodied, lowish, oily carbonation. Nice. Sweet, dark grain and cereal malts, caramel, light coffee, light alcohol. Hazy, dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Medium sweet. More sweet, dark toasted malts, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, some cacao, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Very nice Impy, well-balanced, not too strong. Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Daniel. Pours black-brown afrothy, beige head. Nice aroma, slight roast, cocoa, mild coffee, a little smoke. Medium to big sweet flavour with meaty dark malts, alcohol, toasted marshmallows, a little ash, burnt toffee. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Bottle at L42. It pours black with thick light tan head. The aroma is sticky, cookie dough, brown, tangy, fruity whisky, chocolate, tar, dark chocolate, earthy roast and vanilla. The taste is slick, toasty, earthy roast, plenty of coffee, chocolate, charred wood, warming booze, fruity whisky, toffee, fudge and a touch of spice with a coffee finish. 12oz bottle pours a murky brown with some clumpy/sudsy white head. Nose is earthy with soil and mushrooms, rubber and industrial notes, caramel, coffee. More coffee in the flavor, caramel, toast, bread, soil, smoke. Some mushroom too. Finishes oily and a touch thin.
