Sample kindly of Kees, headbrewer @ Emelisse. Holy smoke, this beer rocks! This beer might have reconciled me with Islay peated beers.

33 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a small to no head. Aroma is tarish and burne dark malty. Sweet malty, tarish and dark roasted malty flavoured. Dry and roasted malty finish, lasting tarish note.

Draft. Dark maroon color, small but thick brown head. Aroma of vanilla, coffee grounds, rich dark cocoa, whiskey. Taste is vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee. Complex and characterful. Nice stuff.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has smoke, whiskey, roasted malt, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of iodine, smoke, chocolate, alcohol, roasted malt, and soy sauce, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle from De Bierkoning. OIly black body with razorthin tan head. Nose of chocolate, malts, whiskey. Taste is dark chocolate, lots of peat and oil in there. High octane stuff. Some bitter and licorice in the finish. Very good but hardcore.

[email protected] Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is peated malts, some smoke as well as mild liquorice and mild herbal notes. Flavour is liquorice, peat and some mild smoked notes. Very balanced and nice mellow Ardbeg flavours (Though the Ardbeg notes are very evident).

Bottle, thanks to MrHangover! Black with a light brown head that dissolves quickly. Huge aroma of peaty whisky, also chocolate and licorice. Taste: peaty whisky with notes of light tar and seaweed, coffee grounds, cocoa powder, salty licorice, light grapefruit, quite bitter. Full-bodied and smooth. Ardbeg is my favourite distillery, and I must say that those flavours go really well with the chocolate and licorice of the base beer. I am sure the same goes for the Caol Ila version, so I will be looking for that one.

Bottled 33cl. Strong smokiness. Leather showing up. Full bodied. Band-aid reminiscence throughout. Very nice.

Poured an oily black with a small, tight tan head which quickly disappeared. Aroma of peatyness overpowers everything else in the nose (good job I like my Islay malts). Smooth, creamy medium body. flavour is of the peaty roasted malt dominating, with a very dry, bitter aftertaste. Excellent for what it is, but a very acquired taste.

Svesse (8597) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - SEP 8, 2013
(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 27 July 2013) Black colour with foamy, brown head. Smoky, roasted, malty nose with oak wood, Islay whisky, peat, tar, soy sauce and roasted malt. Malty, roasted taste with notes of oak wood, peat smoke, liquorice, soy sauce, dark bread and a certain roasty bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Hardly in exceptional balance, with the oak wood and whisky character taking over a touch too much. But then I love Ardbeg whisky, so I can’t really complain. Quite extreme, but in my opinion very nice.
