Shit weather, job applications. Time to get one of the proper beers out of the ’cellar’. 330ml bottle at home as ’Emelisse White Label Imperial Russian Stout (Ardbeg BA)’, 2010 vintage bottled at 11%. Totally opaque black, bubbly brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, smoke, ash, fruity, nutty, Neapolitan icecream. Layered and lovely. Can smell it from across the room. Body is medium, oily, smooth, rounded. Taste is peaty, smoke, dark chocolate, coffee, salty finish. Smokey linger. Rounded and lovely. So drinkable for the ABV. Outstanding. Pretty close to my perfect beer. kaivoetmann (5) - NORWAY - OCT 28, 2012 does not count
Bought this by recommendation from the shopkeeper at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam! Pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, oak and peat. Flavor of malts, coffee, smoke, tar, peated whisky, oak, slight sting of alcohol. Medium body, soft carbonation, some alcohol in the finish. Might just bee the best beer i tried so far! Great recommendation dude! Kikuzzo (143) - Bologna, ITALY - JAN 10, 2013
Incredibile, impenetrabile e avvolgente... esperienza da godere senza fretta. Mi portato indietro a quando mio padre fumava la pipa e la domenica mattina prima di pranzo usava il tabacco leggero, dolce e un po’ vanigliato. Silvan7 (1242) - Samarate, ITALY - MAY 28, 2013
Bottle @ home.

Oily black colour, syrupy. Thin head of dark brown foam. Very rich and complex character. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, ardbeg whiskey and peat. Very well balanced between bitterness and some light sweetness. Full of taste. Very good! MonsterMagnet (1418) - NETHERLANDS - OCT 23, 2014
Bottle, bb 12-15. Pours black & tan. Aroma: peat, iodine, wood, liquorice.
Taste: peat, dark chocolate, wood, coffee, almond, ash. Full bodied, creamy, velvety mouthfeel, sweet, with a loooong lasting roasty bitter, boozy finish with woody dryness and peaty goodness. This is one for peat lovers! ZodiacM (1140) - NETHERLANDS - FEB 24, 2015
Heerlijke BA! rzymol (118) - - FEB 27, 2015
Bottle, 33cl. It pours deeply dark with no head, just a remnant. Must be the barrel that took it away. The scent is unbelievable. It actually smells like a barrel with a very intense aroma of eroded wood mixed with whiskey malt (and I assure you that it is a *very* fine whiskey), peatbog, smoked caramel and dark chocolate. I could smell this beer for a day. And that?s just a beggining. One would expect that due to very intense barrel aromas the taste will be whiskey-dominated. But not only the base beer is there, it is up-lifted by the barrel aging. The wave of very sticky sweetness that tastes like extracted and concentrated whiskey-malt dominates the mouth but develops into lingering bitterness that crawls like a snake in the background. Meanwhile a very enjoyable dryness on the tongue and spicy touches on the mouth sides are perceptible. The aftertaste is very looong and built of bittersweet feelings that fullfils the mouth. Full bodied with oily texture is the one that leaves me completely overwhelmed. Amazingly complex and balanced drink, a combination of single malt whiskey, wooded barrel, roasted caramel and spices. If one does not like the essence of whiskey and peat, this one may be to extreme. For me, it is definately the best RIS I had so far. JorisPPattyn (9927) - Ursel, BELGIUM - FEB 6, 2012
No head, ink-black liquid. Superb woody-smoked Islay malt nose; peaty, phenolic, tarr and seasalt. Even more phenolic & tarry than the nose, but in the background, retronasal, an alcoholic fire of toasted and roasted malts is burning. Sweet black coffee notes. This is unidimensional AND balanced - rare! Warming, slick-viscous but not really thick MF. Oh, I know, I’m a s*cker for anything Islay and smoked. Even more thanks, thus, Kees!
