330ml bottle at Vertshuset Skarven, shared with Randi and Finn. Oily pour revealing a deep mahogany coloured body content topped by a shiny, naked surface. Fragile lacing to the glass. Powerful aroma of peat, smoked malts, ebb-tide and salty sea. The peaty taste profile is beautifully combined with chocolate malt and hints of liquorice and added by integrated alcohol warmth to a long-lived finish. Full bodied, still very smooth on the swallow. Top notch (Tromsø, 14.01.2013). MaartenRF10 (1950) - Wageningen, NETHERLANDS - DEC 20, 2012
Dark brown, near black colour, beige head. Wonderful aroma of peated whiskey with hints of iodium, smoke and wood. Taste like aroma, very powerful, very peaty, very Coal Ila. Love it! jfb (6256) - GERMANY - DEC 20, 2012
(bottle) pours a pitch black colour with a creamy dark beige head. aroma of heavy iodine, toasted malts and dark chocolate, very medicinal, with notes of peat smoke, brown sugar, biscuits and chocolate fudge. flavour is more of the same, heavy peat smoke and ash, slightly salty, with a hint of sea tang, soy sauce, discreet caramel and fudge, toasted malts and a relatively dry finish. surprisingly light-bodied with soft carbonation.

Huge thanks to Matt for lugging this from Amsterdam. Wow. Black pour, small tan head. Huge peat notes in here -- quite an addition from one of the best scotch labels out there. Chocolate, leather, smoke, peat -- this is unbelievably good. The best blend of dark chocolate / malts and peaty scotch I’ve ever had. Just great. luttonm (6271) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 16, 2012
.33l bottle from De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. Whoa, this is fantastic. Incredible scotch peat aroma. Strongest, cleanest scotch aroma off anything I’ve ever tasted. This IRS ’base’ beer is a fantastic vehicle for showing off these barrels. Huge clean scotch flavor, peaty and rich, hits with a big smooth rich IRS. Black brown with firm bubbly head. Creamy, full, coating feel. Scotch base is awesome, and the beer treats it well. Caramel sweet, smoked peat. Could pass as a rauchbier. Incredible, but a limited vein. ration (2236) - Tampere, FINLAND - DEC 6, 2012
061212. Bottle at home. Pours black with a small head that stays. Aroma whiskey, burnt malts. Dry ash, wishkey dry feel. Not for your average beer drinker. Not Bad. Martinus (4601) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - NOV 27, 2012

(From 33cL bottle @ a wood aged beer tasting)
Good beer but this one for me is just a little too peaty and even too sweet. Burns a big hole in the stomach :). Bottle from De Bierkoning.
