5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
It takes a lot for me to give a perfect rating, but this beer gets it hands down, its just that amazing.
It pours a hazy dark brown with minimal head. The aroma is a restrained malty scent, which does nothing to prepare you for the onslaught that is the taste. The first thing that hits you is the smoked malt flavor along with the very lively mouthfeel. This fades back to a nice malt backbone with the smoke still present but at a lesser degree.
This beer is one of a kind, and its such a shame that most of you will never get a chance to try it.
Bottle - thanks Cloaker! Pours cloudy chestnut, small beige head that leaves nice residual and good lacing. Aroma is rich and malty, dark sugars, a bit of smoke, dark breads, caramel. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter, heavy malty, smoky, nice contrasting bitterness. A touch of acidity is present, giving a bit of sharpness. Full body, rich mouthfeel. Very tasty beverage. dfinney23 (3269) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUN 12, 2014
Peat smoke seems to have faded a bit from what I remember. Still a very nice caramel and leather aroma with more figs and raisins in the taste. jsquire (4489) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - APR 30, 2014
I’ve had this bottle in the fridge for a while now. Murky brown color with only the barest fringe of bubbles for a head. Aged beer nose with copious amounts of dried fruit, dark sugar and warming alcohol. This is a sweet beer with tons of brown sugar and molasses over raisins and prunes and fruit cake. Nice alcohol bloom in the finish. Great patina on an aged beer. Fritz123 (1535) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - FEB 9, 2014
12oz. bottle from recent trade. Home in snifter. Pours a dark, nearly opaque brown with almost no head. No lacing. Aroma of peat, smoke, dark fruits, barrel and scotch booze. The taste was first smoke and peat and then a sweet dark fruit and booze finish. You also get some toffee and caramel. Medium to full body. Finish is oak, booze and caramel. raradel (343) - Atlanti Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 17, 2014
Wildly mature and deep at this point. Great nose of tobacco and leather, lightly malty. Murky red color. Flavors are sweet malt with a full finish.

Aged 2-3 years, pours light brown caramel color lots of sediment haha, sweet butterscotch, caramel slight smoky flavor. Great scotch ale, above a Rahr Iron Thistle any day... wish it wasn’t just a limited brew... phaleslu (10247) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 3, 2013
12 oz. bottle from ericandersnavy- thanks again, Eric! Pours a hazy amber color with a tiny off-white head that settles into a lasting ring. Aroma of dust, cardboard, wood, peanut brittle, brown sugar, dates, and earth. Flavor of caramel, brown sugar, peat, wood, earth, figs, and dates. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, boozy mouthfeel and low carbonation. A bit past its prime, but solid. JakeSparks (125) - Alvin, Texas, USA - JAN 21, 2013

Notes from my backlog: Deep hazy amber with a creamy tan head. Richly malty. Some toasted toffee, almost chocolaty with a sweet vanilla hint, tobacco and ginger snap cookies. Complex nose. Creamy body- richly malty. Toffeeish and toasted spices flavors, mild tobacco and dries out with a graham cracker note and biscuit. Nice malt depth. Awesome.
