4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Last of the 2012 purchased at Brawley’s in Charlotte NC. Pours rich deep black brown. Head is a rich milk chocolate froth of small bubbles that quickly disappears. Nose is restrained rich deep chocolate notes. Taste is sweet dark chocolate bitters with just a hint of honey sweetness. The rich dark chocolate flavor broadens on the finish. A staggeringly good beer.
2014 vintage bottle acquired in NC. I may be a bit biased since the BA version of this is one of my favs. Pours a really thick dark oil consistency. Has hints of dark figs, burnt brown sugar and tobacco. Alcohol is moderately there. Great taste as the base for the BA version. Sammy (12599) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 23, 2017

Sampled on purpose, as I was supposed to be returning to North Carolina, but that didn’t happen - so I’m close, but not in NC. 2014 Vintage as pressed into the Wax on the bottlecap and on the front of the bottle, in a gold coloured wax - very nice and impressive.
Deep dark brown coloured body with a rich opaque glow of dark brown and almost black, at around 90%, all with a thinnish, single centimetre tall head of rich brown. Aroma of pure honey, roasted malt, light coffee, chocolate, earth, toffee, grain and a bit of mellow flowers and honeysuckle. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich roasted malt flavours with peat, coffee, earth, toffee, caramel, grain and a touch of light spices, all with a smooth honey sweetness, some dry oak and yeast, a touch of bread and a few pungent malt notes. Aftertaste is relatively subdued with some sweeteness evident, some grain and bittering elements and a touch of the honey meshed with the roasted malt that ends up being relatively easy-to-drink. Overall, a great Imperial Stout that is fairly easy-to-drink, shows a lot of elegant characteristics, a big sweetness and a smooth beer, despite the high alcohol - this must be the aging cycle here, and would probably be better in five years time, but alas this was my only bottle, perhaps I’ll pick up another the next time down in North Carolina. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Cary, North Carolina on 02-August-2014 for US$12,99 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 15-January-2017.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2016 Bomber 2013 vintage, thanks Russ, shared with Russ. Rich roasted malt aroma with notes of molasses, chocolate and a little bit of honey sweetness. Pours black with a thin dark brown head that has poor retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavors with dark chocolate notes with a full body. Finishes very smooth with molasses and light honey flavors. Excellent imperial stout.

Tap. Pours opaque black, small tan head, some lacing. Aroma is quite roasty, cocoa, ashtray, molasses, coffee, hints of smoke. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, roasty and molasses soaked coffee beans. Medium body, soft but a little thin for style. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - APR 25, 2016
22 (I think). Can’t remember who brought this one (N?), but thank you. Pours an opaque dark ebony with a long-lasting creamy tan head. Big coffee and dark chocolate nose. Creamy thick body with moderate carb. Roasty coffee and dark chocolate mid palate, nice bitter counterpoint to the sweetness of the malts. Long roasty finish. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - JAN 18, 2016
2013 bottle. It pours a thick, jet black color with a thin brown head. The aroma is rich and complex with notes of fudge, molasses and honey up front. Nice dense roasted, smoky malts underneath with hints of almonds and sherry that seem like mild oxidation, but it suits this beer well. The flavor is rich with dense, woody roasted malt. Sweet with honey and molasses, but the intense smoke and roast balance it out a bit. There’s some hints of floral/menthol bitterness in the finish along with more intense roast. The body is insanely thick and goes down slow. This is a sipper for sure, and feels much bigger than 10% although the alcohol isn’t that noticeable, just the flavors and mouthfeel are extremely intense. Some burnt malt in the aftertaste is the only mild turn off. Otherwise, a really intense, complex treat. Countbeer (6591) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - NOV 29, 2015

Flavour is a great mix of honey, roast, chocolate, liquorice, good bitter, hops, coffee, some toffee, light fudge and a hint of molasses...
