Aged for four months in bourbon barrels from the distillery in Kentucky, the Bourbon Barrel Stout is a robust yet balanced beer. Roasted malts give it a chocolate and coffee overtone, and the oak creates hints of vanilla and caramel. At 10.5% ABV, this stout pairs well with smokey barbeque sauce or even rich desserts.

Pours black with a tan head, scents of vanilla. A swig of this beast reveals a full bodied beer with tastes of vanilla, oak, and creamy roasted malts. The alcohol is masked quite nicely. Yummy.

Bottle. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, vanilla, oak, coconut and booze. The taste was similar to the aroma with more chocolate, wood and booze. A little thin on the palate, not bad, thicker would have been better.

Bottle shared at the bar in the Tulip Inn, Bodegraven post BBF day 2, by a friendly Geordie guy who used to be a train spotter 27/09/14. Dark mahogany brown with moderate tan spotting and edgework. Nose is big roast, spice, bourbon ba tunes, toffee, earthy. Taste comprises toffee fudge, the bourbon isn’t shy in this one, roast malt, spice. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok BA impy, easy drinking but ultimately lacks depth for the ABV, BBA impy for beginners!

despite being a stronger beer this year (11.5) it poured darkish brown. pretty light in body too, especially for an impy. the alcohol was evident, perhaps a little too much, in the aroma, but it was still a very pleasant booziness. the beer was a little too thin to make much of an appearance through the barreling. some light roast, chocolate, coffee, and lots o bourbon. you’ll notice my score is still pretty high, but that is more indicative that this is a style i just love, so even a "bad" one is good. this is probably the lowest i’ve ever scored a barreled impy stout (and upon review, the lowest of 5 Odell ratings to this point, though this is my favorite style)."

Bottle: 2009 vintage: Served in a Chouffe glass: Ashy light brown head. Black body. Aromas of berries, tobacco, coffee, prunes, light coffee, light roast... Flavours of bitters, roast, berries, grapes, light bay leaf, some herbal and even fruit roast and light light whiskey... Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, grapes, raisin, light wood, light malt and light whiskey. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium to full bodied and a light creamy tart ish texture.

Tasted at a bottle share in a hotel room after the last Jackie-O’s bottle release. Near-black color. Minimal off-white head. Dark fruity aroma, hint of vanilla, mostly sweet. Some tannic. Bigger body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation, more dry finish. Lots of dark fruit, some chocolate, tobacco. Not the greatest... Overly tannic, to put it nicely. Some oxidization.

S: leather, green olive juice, hints of cocoa T: mostly leather, some green olive juice, some coffee grounds. M; thin and hi carb. Dry. O: unimpressed at best. 750mL bottle, sent from mista (thanks a lot, Geoff), pours black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon barrels and a slight wild yeast infection. Flavour is similar, with notes of mild bourbon, muted roast, a very slight wild yeast infection, and a mineraly quality that is detracting from the complexity. Pretty light on the palate, without much flavour dynamics. Decent, but of the mark.

This is one of my least favorite barrel aged stouts and a rare miss from Odell. Lots of vanilla and some milky flavors accenting the chocolate here. Almost stale flavor. Lots of bourbon though...
