Danish: Amager Hr.

English: In his original form Mr. Frederiksen was a potent, forceful fellow with some sharp edges, he has in this incarnation heavily taken to his female side. The 12 months spent ageing in port wine casks has subdued his temperament and created a different soft and rounded beer, he has however lost none of his virility to which the slight increase in alcohol to 11% will testify.
This beer is the blackest of the black with a creamy light brown head, which leaves the finest lacing around the glass. The effect of the port ageing can be felt most clearly on the nose which is soft and rounded - try sending it round the table in the place of dessert at the next family party. The body is still plump with plenty of roasted malt and notes of dark, bitter chocolate.
Wooden barrels add a rustic and slightly oxidized edge to this beer - just as in the best port wines. In contrast, the 12 months in wood has not done away with Amagers familiar bitterness, as with the original Mr. Frederiksen flavours come both from the hard roasted malts and a generous addition of hops, the built- alcohol makes your fireplace superfluous, you can warm yourself by the radiant heat of Port aged Mr. Frederiksen alone.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt, wheat malt, oats, hops and yeast

(Bottled, rated 2010-12-14) Almost black with a firm and lasting, light brown head. Intensive aroma with softly licoricey Impy meeting sour-wineous port. Red wine is emphasized in the sour, oaky-tannic flavor. The fine original beer is perhaps even too hidden, but nevertheless this is awesome stuff! A sophisticated and warming beer with no booziness.

Bottle shared at chrisos Easter 2015 tasting - London. Huge thanks to Chris for supplying this one from his cellar! Pours oily black with a creamy tan head. Great snout, lots of burnt wood, raisins, chocolate, earth. Medium to big sweet flavor with rich baking cocoa, ash, coffee, scorched earth. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Hot finish with hearty chocolate, coffee grounds, baking cocoa, wood, earth, dried and leathery dark fruits. So solid. Rich, complex, decadent.

Flaska frn SB.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, thanks to the Chriso cellar, 04/04/15. Pitch black with a dirty tan covering that quickly dissipates. Nose is a rich roast base, light spice, dark fruits, woody notes, chocolate tones. Taste comprises rich roast, ashen tones, dark chocolate, spice, dark fruit rinds, tangy red berry, winey/port BA resonance. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with subtle warming alcohol. Solid stuff, has aged very well.

Bottle - Pours dark cola color with a tan ring of head. Nose is boozy, sharp, and sweet, with dark ashy malt. Taste is smoke, ash, dry dark malt, and a light sweet booziness and a warm finish. Thin, slick, and low carbonation. Pretty limp.

(Bottle) Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, oak wood, liquorice, port wine, raisins, red fruit and dark chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, roasted malt, oak wood and a finish with balanced coffee bitterness and a warming and vinous touch of port wine. Full body, with a certain sweetness. The barrel ageing works exceptionally well, the port wine character is clearly evident, but quite balanced, adding complexity to the beer rather than taking over the show. Lovely beer!

Bottled. Poured deep brown with a short-lived, rich mocha head. The aroma picked up lots and lots of near-burnt coffee and Port wine.. pretty much as expected, with spicy, older vinous notes on the edges of the nose (well-aged).. the barrel cut through the sugars and roast well.. very nice! The flavor opened with tangy barrel and vinous notes, with well-roasted coffee following.. vinous warmth rose as the drink progressed.. finished with lots of burnt coffee roast, lightly-tangy Port barrel, and belly warmth. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation.. this wasnt quite brilliant, but it sure was very good.

Dark beer with some garnet colors around the edges when held against the light. There was no pop when I released the cork, and the beer itself was was pretty still. Big sweet malt profile with molasses and brown sugar. This is a very dry beer with some grassy hops, some red wine/port flavors and a long dry finish. This beer is better warmer. The alcohol is well hidden until the end, when it kicks you in the head. Nice specialty beer.
