4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep ruby colour, thick creamy head is beige. The nose is freshly hopped, slightly citrusy, pol leny and mangoish. Some apricots. Sweet, toffeyish and creamy malts, loads of raisins and dried peaches, strawberry notes and a hint of licorice. Light bready roastedness, milk chocolate and just a hint of alcohol in the finish. Resiny, balancing bitter finish. Silky, very smooth texture, full body. Lovely, complex beer with amazing drinkability and warming strength.
Bottle at RBSG 17 grand tasting. Dark, ruddy brown small beige head. Sweet aroma, molasses and brown sugar, roast malts. Taste is also sweet, right on target, and has held up reasonably well over time. Some odd citrus elements here too, a bit of warmth also.

Tap. 7 years old and holding up.
A: Nearly black, cappuccino head.
N: Oxidation, raspberry, cherry, biscuit, raisin and fig, toffee, touch of cocoa.
T: Lightly sweet, quite bitter.
M: Medium body, no alcohol, soft carbonation.
O: Tasty stuff still. The oxidation has added an extra layer to the beer at this point, and it’s very cool to see that here. JK (6292) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - MAR 11, 2017
2010 bottle. Carbonation is almost gone. It is showing its age. Some dust, malt, alcohol. Moderately toasted and a little coffee. BigBeer45 (1565) - Michigan, USA - FEB 9, 2017
Bottle poured into a glass,
this beer has a dark brown-black pour with a tan colored one to two finger cover of bubbles, there was nice tan colored lacings on the sides of the glass,
the nose had mild coffee aromas with roasted malt, faint chocolate, dark brown sugar and dark caramel sweetness, some dark fruit aromas, a little alcohol to, faint grassy hops in the background, and hints of smoke,
the flavors were roasted malt and chocolate, faint dark fruit notes,
some brown sugar sweetness and caramel,
there was a coffee like bitterness at the finish and the bitterness carried on,
the mouth feel was sort of thick, but it appeared to feel almost watery as it warms up,
this drink had a nice presentation, it was a dark roasty beer and did not come across as a barley wine style. Minderbinder (3469) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 1, 2016
Pours dark brown with low beige head. Good lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, alcohol, fruits. Taste is of bitterness, malt, oxydyzed. Palate: Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Good, but over the hill indeed.

appearance: silky dark brown to black, short dense creamy tan head. aroma: earthy, with wood, cattail, loam, caramelized sugar, toffee, plum, molasses and licorice. taste: roasty at first, with notes of molasses, toffee, espresso; dark fruits like raisin, fig and plum; earthy hops, with vegetal/herbal notes, then a growing herbal hoppy bitterness. finish: dry, slightly chewy palate; lasting dark roast balanced by earthy, herbal hops that now bring a bit of pine and mint to the party. notes: Felt like a hybrid imperial stout/black IPA. Big and rich and boozy, earthy and flavorful. Bottle aged since 2011.

Bouteille 750ml, bottle share. Couleur brun foncé presque opaque, mousse beige. Arôme de malt caramélisé, alcool, mélasse, épices, oxydée. Goût de malt caramélisé, épices, alcool. Carbonatation faible, corps dense. mathieuc (4000) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 24, 2016
Pours a very dark brown with a light beige head that leaves pretty nice lacing. Nose is really hop forward with some tobacco in the back. Taste is not that sweet for a barleywine with some rich toffee notes, more green hops and some oxidation. It plays well with the rest, though. A little hot still, a tad more than you would expect from a 10% beer. Medium-full body, low to medium carbonation. A pretty good sipper! czar (9430) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 22, 2016
bottle at tom’s epic tasting 2016. pours unclear medium dark brown-red with a small light beige cap offering some retention and lacing. raisins, dates, roasted chocolate, brown sugar sweetness, spices. moderate carbonation, light to medium body - very oily; semi-sweet woodsy-spicy finish. nice black barleywine.
