Sampled at EBF. Pours an opaque black with some creamy, beige head. Nose is mild cherry, toast, malt. Flavor is lactic, cherry, licorice, rubber. Sweet, medium bodied finish. Might be slightly infected. craftycarl21 (2339) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 25, 2013
Draft at Churchkey. Black pour with a vivacious beige head. Nose and flavor bring serious character from the barrels, including port, madeira, and other digestif type wines most prominantly. Flavor includes this with a slight lactic tang, vanilla, definite sweet chocolate. Big flavor, pretty smooth in body for 9%. This is damn good. On tap at Deep Ellum - Allston, MA. Big bourbon (?) and oak nose mingled with the dense sweet cream, cherries, brandy, and fruit dark, rich porter note. Rich, creamy, texture, silken and sweet. Refined, elegant and well-melded. Easily one of the best meetings of barrel and beer. Eminently integrated. Suave and tight. Note: I later learned this was the Utopias-aged version, not just an "oak-aged" version.
