Pours a beautiful mahogany with cocoa head. Nose is slightly astringent with tart apple and elements of bittersweet chocolate. Medium in the mouth with a smooth deep malt back supporting notes of coffee, tart sappy hop, and sweet and spicy finish with slight smoke and moss. Great beer.

Pitch black, medium beige head and some spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, molasses, floral and dark fruits. Taste is rich, medium bitter, very roasty, something sweet that can be the birch syrup, which I have never tried, honey, chocolate. Full body, slick feel, soft carbonation, long finish. A very classic imperial stout, with a syrupy character but not over sweet. Booze well hidden, which makes it easy to drink, but it’s a dinner. The aroma is malt, coffee, roasted, some woody aroma. Pours black with mostly diminishing beige tan head, excellent lacing. The taste is heavy bitter, coffee, woodsy. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish bitter. An Excellent RIP that I will try to find another and age as this is already an excellent beer. This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a jet black color with a finger’s worth of tan head. Mild clingy lace.
The aroma leads with a rugged sweet to roasty coffee bean and grinds with a bit of pizazz from some grassy hops. Dark bitter cocoa beans enter in with a touch of sweet fireweed honey. Light birch syrup. Then some smoke.
The flavor leans towards the sweet side with a huge robust smokiness rolling all up in there. Semi-sticky sort of bitter to roastiness grinding into the aftertaste and strolling on into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fair sipping grip sticking along my tongue. Carbonation still felt good. ABV felt as projected by the brewer.
Overall, this was my second bottle and though I didn’t report anything then, seems like nothing has really changed from November 2016 until now. gyllenbock (9299) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 17, 2017
Bottle at Toronado San Diego. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice, dried fruit, some chocolate and hints of smoke. Similar taste. The mouthfeel was thinner than expected.

Black with brown head. Sweet malty whiskey aroma. Taste - sweet rich malt, brown sugar, some maple and bourbon. Sweet, malty and full bodied.

Bomber, shared by Michael at the ski trip. Pours black, with a big, bubbly, tan head. The nose is coffee, baking chocolate, light honey and molasses, pine sap, and cloves. Bomber. Roasted malt aroma with notes of birch syrup, dark chocolate and floral honey. Pours inky black with a thin, nearly nonexistent light brown head that has no retention and very little lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt and dark chocolate with a rich, full body. Finishes smooth and sweet with birch syrup and floral honey flavors.
