Keg at Hanging Bat. Viscous jet black, thin tan head. Nose is a face full of stewed fruits, big cocoa, charred malts, surprising cherry fruit too. Super rich, sweet chocolate, big stewed fruits, amazing thick viscous body, loads of deep sweet coffee flavours, long luxurious boozy roasty finish that almost gets cloying but not quite. Sublime!

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2017 Bottle from brewery kept until yesterday. I pours very very dark brown to black with very transient brown head. Very low carbonation. Aroma of roast malts and slight coffee hint. Tastes of roast and other dark malts much more subdued than previous tasting some while back. Flavours persist for a long time giving time to enjoy and savour. The mouthfeel is oily and 'feels' dark on the tongue. It has developed over the years into something special. Looking forward to trying one of the last bottles in another year or so.

Bottle thanks to Leighton during RBWG. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is roast and vanilla. Sweet malt and roast, very nice.

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Pitch black color. No head. Bisquits, wet socks, wooly, sweet, roast in aroma. Nice roast, nutty, spicy hops, bit ashy in taste. Soft carbonation. Nice roast in aftertaste. Nice one! Alcohol is well hidden.

Flaske 0,33l. Gave fra fonefan. Delt med Rune under seanse hos ham 27 Nov 13. Svart. Lavt mokkafarget skum. God sherryaroma. Lite kullsyre. Smaken sammensatt av plommer, svisker & sherry. Veldig godt integrert. Avslutter tørt. Toppøl! Hjertelig takk til Jan!

Short: An uncarbonated Bells Expedition clone

Origin: 330mL Size: 6oz Glass: Pizza Boy snifter Price: Gift Date: 1/21/14
Long: Thank you Leighton for this gem. Pours inky but totally flat with no bubbles or anything. Thick, syrupy, jet black stream of liquid. Nose is quite excellent with Bells Expedition like tar, vanilla extract, flashes of dry cured black olive, melted drinking chocolate. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, again it reminds me of Bells Expedition. Rich with a mouthful of unsweetened cocoa powder. Without any bubbles to brighten the palate, the end result is quite bitter and chalky, but no paper or any other flaws.
Flaws: Uncarbonated
Remedy: Carbonate that bitch

330ml bottle many thanks to fonefan for this beer gift. Shared with Finn. Coal black body with a deep ruby shade. Bubbly, low, tan-coloured head. Mild roasted, dark malts on the nose, herbal dry. Mid-sweet dark chocolate flavours joined by notes of coffee, and bittersweet dark fruits to a lingering finish. Full bodied. Strong beer with warming alcohol burning down the throat. Very nice sipper (Tromsø 27.11.2013).

Bottle, BB yesterday (01/11/13) apparently, though I’m sure this would age well over the next few years. Pours a viscous black, never threatens even the smallest head. Smell - oil, roast, marzipan, whisky. Body is smooth and quite big, really coats the mouth. Taste is chocolate and ash, dates, salty, some astringency and bitter tannins in the finish. Quite a hoppy impy, despite the age. Alcohol well hidden. Sticky and drying. Good. I’m on a roll tonight.

Gedronken @ RBESG 13 Grand Tasting, zwarte kleur met een bruine/crme kleurige schuimkraag, snel weg, ruikt en smaakt een beetje naar melk, chocolade, koffie, bitter

Opaque dark brown beer, residual tan head. Smooth palate with no real carbonation. Semi sweet dark malts, smooth rich coffee. Trace of red berry fruits. Semi dry smooth finish. Really well joined up!
