I would have never suspected my first 5 would come from a Double IPA, but I’ve gotta hand it to the brewers of Jackie-O’s. This beer does indeed "fucking rule". Poured on draft a few times at Jackie-O’s. Pours a beautifully translucent copper with a creamy, tight nit head of white foam. Great retention, great lacing. The aroma was loaded with tropical fruit notes of papaya, mango, oranges, pineapple...man, that’s how a Double IPA ought to smell. The first sip is pure ambrosia. The tropical fruit sweetness balances perfectly with the higher alpha acids of the Citra hops. Is Citra the perfect hop? I think this showcasing of it makes a strong case for it in my book. Finish is sweet and bitter and sticks with you for a couple moments. I really hope this is a beer added to the regular lineup. I’m sad I couldn’t bring a growler of this home with me.

Single can from VE, not sure if this is the right spot, but Jackie O’s apparently doesn’t mind not labeling their beer properly, assuming it saves a bit in not having multiple print runs; this one comes up on the bar code scanner (thank you, whoever entered it) though I still have my doubts (and my can reads 9% abv). Nose pine, grapefruit peel. Pour clear, rich golden with above-average carbonation an a too-large, foamy white head. Taste lightly tangy, medium-sweet, low-medium bitter with huge resin, pine. Cleanses the palate right away, good amount of hot booze showing, strong floral character, strong light caramel and a little dough, citrus. Clean and very bright, alive, worth seeking out as a bold, fruity boozer. [2017.08.11: 3.5]

Shared at an Ann Arbor get together at Jeff’s on July 20. Poured from a can, I can’t recall is it was a 12 or crowler. The pour is a clear-ish golden yellow with a big white head that slowly falls, leaving a couple spots of lace. The aroma is pretty good. There is a nice dank citra hop up front with a lot of bitter rind and pine resin. This isn’t anything like I was expecting for a citra IPA. The flavor is much of the same. There is a little more juiciness to it, but it’s really dank, bitter, and dry. The mouth feel is thinner and light with a decent carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. It’s really interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever had a citra beer this dank and bitter.

Can in Seattle. Huge thanks to Pruf, best of the box so far! Thin foamy head, hazy clean orange. Delicious fruit, clean and very fresh. Pineapple, mild pith, sweet and juicy. Modest bitter with a clean, sharp alcohol helping to balance it all. A touch of resin at finish, coating. Terrific and delicious.

Almost clear gold pour with a white head. Great lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, dank, melon rind, and lightly herbal. Taste is citrus zest, under ripe melon, dank, and floral. Grapefruit aftertaste. Dry finish. Very good.
