COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scarce, subtle and complex, Thomas Hardy’s Ale is the beer enthusiast’s equivalent of rare cognac. Bottle-conditioned to mature in the bottle like fine wine, this old ale/barley wine will improve with age for at least 26 years (and we’re still counting!). Not for the faint of palate, especially when young and brash, maturity brings an elegance of flavors unmatched by any other beer—if you have the patience to cellar it for at least a decade.

2005 bottle. Lives up to the hype. Its not hype if its this good, correct? Aroma is caramel, raisin, leather and tropical fruit. All in balanced. No carbonation. Flavor is similar to aroma with a little hint of mellow tobacco and a touch of smoke. Everything in balance. Slight hint of bitterness. Cant tell if the fruitiness is hops, esters or just age....who cares? This beer is phenomenal. If it tastes like this now, what does it taste like 20 years down the road? Mouthfeel is sticky and sweet, but not cloying. Alcohol is nearly undetectable. This really is like sipping on good port or cognac. Near flawless.

8.5 oz. 2007 bottle. Amber body. No head. Smells oxidized. Cardboard. Sherry. A little fruity. Smells sweet and caramelly. Tastes sweet. Caramel malt. Heavily oxidized. Cardboard. Bitter. Just a bit of acidity. Medium body. No carbonation. Yikes, this is rough.

It pours deep reddish bronze with a small tan head. The aroma has dough, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, toffee, dates, alcohol and a good deal of oxidation. It has a full slick body with not much carbonation, but it is 8 years old and all. The taste has the aroma with lots of dates, figs, more alcohol and some woodiness. Pretty tasty.

Corpo médio as vezes licoroso, carbonatação negativa.

Slightly hazy dark amber color with just a bit of tan foam. Aroma is really complex with caramel, dried figs and raisins, slight menthol, a bit of rum and a touch of walnut. Taste starts with dried raising, figs, date, continues with earthy flavors, slightly nutty and some brown sugar. Sticky, syrupy mouthfeel. Extremely complex beer, a true masterpiece.

Had this multiple times, seems like somehow my rating was deleted. Tasted all years.2004 and 2006 with 3-4 years on them where my favorites but not in par with Eldridge Pope versions. Nonetheless a nice sipper and a good beer to age.
