4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle (12 oz) bottled in 2010. Huge thanks to pushkinwow for this one! Pitch black with a small thick creamy brown head and good lacing. Aroma is very complex with chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, caramel and toffee. Taste is so sweet with explosive caramel/toffee notes, roasted malt, vanilla and alcohol. It’s almost a 10/10 here. Slight bitter finish. Mouthfeel is so thick that you almost have to chew the beer. Definitely a 5/5 for the palate. Full bodied. Warming alcohol. One of the best beer I’ve drank so far, it’s hard to get any better than this. Wow!
Bottled 8/31/17. Reviewed 1/18/18. Rich, malty, aroma; dark fruit and chocolate. Deep black color with a 1/2 inch tan-to-brown head, receding fairly slowly, leaving thick lacing down the side of the glass. Thick, creamy feel. Chocolate and dark fruit (but less fruit in the taste than in the aroma), mild start with a nicely bitter middle and finish. You can tell this is a strong beer, but the alcohol is well-controlled in the taste. Just a very slight burn in the finish. mieszal92 (491) - Gliwice, POLAND - JAN 10, 2018

Sos sojowy wyszedł w mniej przyjemna stronę niż pity przed chwilą Smuttynose BP pochodzący z tego samego źródła i będący, w domniemaniu, rówieśnikiem (?). Sporo ciała, ostra goryczka z palonosci, ale z drugiej strony jest też porządnie słodkie. Klasior. Cybuch (634) - Muszyna, POLAND - JAN 10, 2018
W aromacie mocno karmelowe, amerykanskie chmiele, slodko, troche czekolady, palone. Barwa prawie czarna, piana drobna, ladna. W smaku karmel wpadajacy w czekolade, geste, palonosc. Jest po slodkiej stronie mocy. Goryczka srednia, alkohol lekki, nie przeszkadza. Bardzo dobre piwo, przeszkadza mi tu troche ten karmel. wekker84 (2570) - etten-leur, NETHERLANDS - JAN 9, 2018

On tap at Hopcat after a day of jury duty. This has been on the list to try for some time. Not sure why it was hard to track down in Mpls. Snifter glass. Dark cola brown or basically black. Minimal head. Nose opens up as it warms... big roasty malts and chocolate. Maybe a hint of dark fruit like raisins or figs. Definitely needs to be served warmer. Taste is relatively heavy on dark chocolate carrying a dose of bitterness and a hint of fruit with it. Finish brings around a coffee roasty quality. The warmth of alcohol is definitely present. Very solid rendition of the style...almost feels straightforward for what I expect from a Russian Imperial Stout. Worth the trek.

Black (literally thick as oil), thin mocha head. Nose is cherries, currants, coffee and a smidge of alcohol. Intensely bittersweet. Middle, where to begin? Sacher torte, blackened grain, cherries & caramel, woody bitterness. Finish is still incredibly bittersweet. Wow. simontomlinson (682) - Blackburn, Lancashire, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2017
Thin dark brown head left a collar on a very dark brown oil slick.
Coffee, licorice, aniseed & burnt aromas.
Medium bodied, super smooth & oily on the palate with minimal carbonation - it just slides down!
Bitter burnt coffee, dark berries, coal & demerara tastes with a really bitter tangy finish. SONOFWODEN (77) - New York, USA - DEC 24, 2017
Bell's Two Hearted Ale sits at the top of my list as a straight up IPA so I gave this Stout a try. It is a rich, delicious, top-notch Imperial right on par with North Coast Old Rasputin and Sierra Nevada Narwhal. It pours nearly black with a thick head of about half and inch. You can definitely pick up overall roast and backdrop of coffee and dark chocolate in the aroma. The taste has some nice low key sweetness and again with an overall roast and dark chocolate. It has the full body, smoothness, and then slight bitter ending that you would expect. I had a cousin would does not drink craft, but likes "dark beers", and his words were "yeah, you can definitely bring this again" which is high praise from him.
