Partiamo col dire che è una branda di birra. Se la vedete, dovete comprarla. Trovarla al supermercato mi stupi non poco e rimasi in trance per circa un quarto d’ora a fissarla finchè non la comprai, tornando tutto baldanzoso e contento a casa. Aprendo la bottiglia fuoriesce un aroma potentissimo in grado di far riscrescere i capelli a un calvo o di far passare un raffreddore a un influenzato. Al naso comunque si presentano noti alcoliche, di lieviti con effluvi tannici e con una nota finale di frutti di bosco (soprattutto more e lamponi). Presenta un colore mogano con riflessi rubino.L’ingresso in bocca è meraviglioso complessissimo e carbonato. Il gusto è fruttato: di nuovo frutti di bosco e prugne con un leggero sentore di brandy. Vira verso una note speziate nel finale con una leggera luppolatura che pulisce il tutto. Complessissima e indescrivibile: fate prima ad assaggiarla voi stessi. Grazie monaci trappisti, siete bellissimi.

Color ambarino buena corona de espuma blanca, aromas a pasas notas malta, grandes sabores a malta, buena sensación en boca, cuerpo denso, gran cerveza.

Bottle from Salt Horse. Deep ruby body with lots of sediment floating beneath a lasting beige head. Steady carbonation. Aroma of fig, prunes, golden syrup and chocolate. Flavour of toffee, black pepper, wood, leather and a hint of varnish. Medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A wonderful, luxurious beer.

Color marrón oscuro, opaco, rojo oscuro si le da la luz, con capa de espuma de un blanco amarronado de tres dedos de grosor (muy buena retención, nunca llega a disiparse del todo). Carbonatación alta. Textura oleosa y demasiado efervescente. A medida que va reposando en el vaso esa efervescencia se pierde y la textura es simplemente oleosa, lo cual me interesa más. Aroma complejo a dark fruits (higos, pasas), azúcar, un mínimo de alcohol, especias, reminiscencias florales. Algo dulce. Difícil de explicar, pues todos los elementos se entremezclan maravillosamente entre sí. En boca entra dulce, con dark fruits presentes (higos y pasas, de nuevo), toques florales, especiada ligeramente. Algo de alcohol, junto con un leve amargor, se cuelan al final del trago. Ligeramente seca. Postgusto a dark fruits. Muy rica aunque lejos de la leyenda, si he de ser sincero. Hay cervezas de similares características que me transmiten más.

Bottle from 2008, drunk in 2017. Pours creamy brown, off-white head. Prunes in the nose, sweet dried fruits with no stickiness left. Something papery. Taste has more prunes, something papery also but does not really feel oxydised. Nice caramelly prune tingle in the back of my throat. Has aged nicely.

Pours dark with a fantastic head which laces all down the glass when you drink it. It's an amazingly velvety texture, no harsh edges to it. A little sweet, with plum, raisins, dandelion & burdock. Feels like it's full of nutrition, top stuff! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2017 Ein absolut tolles Bier. Habe ein gealtertes 12er getrunken und ein normales 8er und ich muss sagen, dass mich das 8 mehr überzeugt hat. Zur Zeit wartet noch ein frisch eingetroffenes 12 auf seinen Verzehr, da es dann ja deutlich anders schmeckt. Jedenfalls ist das 8 deutlich unterbewertet, wie ich finde. Ein durchaus gelungenes Bier was Farbe, Textur und Geschmack betrifft.

Glass at in de vrede. Dark opaque brown, big bubbly offwhite-nrige head, fizzy. Aroma is caramel, sugary, red berries, malty with a lot of spices, almond, balsamic herbs, well hopped, some trademark yeast. Taste mild sweet, full, harmonious yet crisp and punchy. Body is medium to full while carbonation is explosive and maybe too much (but i didn?t pour myself sui i could not let it breathe), dry. Fluffy foamy texture. Finish is long, syrupy, fresh, yeasty, dry. Delicious strong ale.

Bottle. Hazy amber colour, beige head. Complex Aroma, caramel, overripe fruits, wood, molasses, raisins, noble alcohol, whisky. Taste is sweet, caramel, spicy, yeast, wood and noble alcohol. Alcohol is Very well hidden. Very Good drinkability. High carbonation. Very Good.

Pours purple brown, hazy, with foamy lasting beige/off-white head. Aroma: intense malts, dark fruit esters, spicy, floral hop profile. Flavor is more intense: malt with notes of white bread, toasted toffee, caramel, hint of chocolate, supported with dark fruit esters and marmelade like, floral hop profile. Finish is almost sticky, dry. Medium to fill body, texture is sticky, oily feel, carbonation is medium. I don’t know how much exactly cost in Abbey, but second hand dealers wants too much for it - imo.
