A strong Belgian brown ale.
After extensive tasting, trying to fulfil increasingly strict requirements, the brewmaster obtains a creamy, dark Belgian brown ale: Kasteelbier. The quality of the past is still unmatched and the beloved taste is very much of the present. Kasteelbier is a dark, artisanal beer, soft and mild, full and creamy. It can age for many, many years, as indicated on the bottle. 11% abv, serve at 12C (54F) (Translation by Martinus)

Dark brown color with beige soam that transforms into thin layer. Taste is sweet malt with a nice deepness. Soft to medium carbonation with alcohol warmth and bitterness. Excellent beer!

Bottle. Dark brown color. Fruity aroma, light caramel. Really sweet, some cherry taste. The flavour you could have eating a black forest/fort noir cake. Really like it.

Nice dark-brown color, with a ruby hue when kept in light. The head is small and not persistent. Aroma is mostly on the sweet side with hints of caramel, dark bread, dark fruits (raisins, dried figs and plums), chocolate and spices, maybe vanilla and cloves; also very moderate acid and alcoholic hints. Taste is also on the sweet side, with just a little bitterness but enough to make a balance and not let the sweetness to become overwhelming. Same hints of dark bread, dark fruits, caramel, chocolate and spices. Low carbonation and full body, creamy, warm and velvety in the mouth. Besides the sweetness, the beer is thirst quenching and easy to drink. It is a robust beer, but nevertheless a complex and refined one. Its tasty and aromatic, with a well integrated alcohol, great when paired with food and desserts. What else could you ask from a beer?

Bier ruikt zeer en zeer zoet. Smaak is wederom zeer zoet, smaakt alsof er 20 suikerklontjes inzitten. Zo zoet dat het niet meer lekker is.

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2016 9 jaar oude fles (75 cl) gedronken. Mooi donkerbruin bier. Bijna geen schuimkraag en carbonatie meer. Mooi dik robuust aroma en volle smaak van porto, noten, hout, cognac, pruimen, rozijntjes. Warme lange afdronk. Zeer soepel in de mond. Zacht voor zijn 11 %. Zeer lekker degustatiebier.

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours almost completely black, worth irregular white foam. Aroma is relatively intense of licorice, fruits under spirits. Body is dense, with lots of stickiness and some carbonation tickling the tongue. Taste starts sweet, very sweet, but with bitterness emerging later. Finish is long and sweet, with some more carbonation.

This is, and remains, one of my absolute favourite beers for the winter months. I can taste caramel, dates, sherry, molasses and a hint of dark malt with an aftertaste thats intensely sweet but never cloying. Not at all viscous, and with very little head. I had this on tap once and it was absolutely exceptional. Highly recommended.

33cl bottle enjoyed at home in a snifter glass on 15-Nov-2016. Dark brown with a thick beige coloured head, which settles down quickly leaving nice lacing. Aroma of malt, dark fruit, cocoa, spices and caramel. Full body and medium carbonation. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt and dark berries - tart, light sweetness but surprisingly smooth for 11% ABV.
