This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

2012-2013 winter edition poured into a snifter. Pours a rich dark black with a finger of tan head that settles nicely with nice lacing. What an imperial stout should look like. Aroma is bakers chocolate, roasted malts, sweet cream, cocoa, and coffee. Taste is roasted malts and barley, semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, wood, vanilla, and rich milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is smooth and moderately sticky. It drinks like a 5% abv beer. This is a fantastic imperial stout.

Bottle from Beerhawk. Nose of dark dusty chocolate, roasted coffee beans, gentle booziness and a bit of licorice. Almost black appearance with thin light tan head. Flavour adds a touch of ash with a bitter boozy front. It has a soft body but then a rather off putting prickly sharp low fizz introduces itself. It gets better as it settles. Taste has a lot more alcohol than the nose. A roasty stout which is fine but let down by the peculiar fizzy body.

Smak melkesjokolade, bringebær, tropisk frukt, kaffe, alkohol. Sjokolade og bar i starten går via bær og kaffe over i sjokolade igjen i avslutningen. Alkoholsmaken er tilstede. Dette er godt og kraftig øl. ---

The taste of alcohol gets thru (in the aftertaste). Very price worthy indeed. The taste is better than the palate (because of the aftertaste). Nice with strong Italian cheese (dry Parmesan).

Pretty much no smell, gotta smell hard to get some good complexity, tasted sweet and then a little bitter on the Finish, very good boldness, strong heavy mouthfeel... sweet roasted malt with some vanilla maybe and a touch of coffee and liquorice...Got some good diversity...Looks like and as thick as motor oil lol... medium alcohol taste but def feel it as time goes on! Finish is very strong and like liquorice...Hurts the score for me

Dark brown liquid, hardly any head. Strong, weird aroma (paint?), with a hint of smoked ham. Heavy body, tiny little bit carbonation. Taste of stout, sweet.

Dark aroma with hints of soy, quite a bit of alcohol coming through. Pours weak with what little head there is dissipating quickly. Impenetrable black to the eye. The 10% is not felt when tasted with the strong taste of leather and soy coming in strong, later overtaken by a dark chocolaty feel followed by some of the alcohol coming back as an afterthought. A bit boring stout, but well worth it at 25 kr a pop.

Bottle. Sensoric. Pitch black with light brown, semi-thick, frothy head. Moderate head retention and lacing. Moderately roasted malts - dark chocolate, coffee, slightly boozy in the aroma. Taste is moderately sweet and moderately bitter - stable, moderately long. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, finish is semi-bitter, ashy, semi-dry. Not very impressive RIS, roasted, moderately bitter, semi-dry, ashy with no special accents.
