Thanks to Momar42 for the bottle! 12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours an ultra-viscous looking pitch black color. Its an amazingly heavy looking monster. The head is a one-finger dark tan color with fantastic texturing. Retention isnt perfect, but the level of lacing is downright beautiful. It just looks amazing. S: Wow, this is one of the most chocolaty-smelling imperial stouts Ive ever encountered. There are also notes of hazelnut, cream, vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, and slight dark fruit. No frills, but fuckin fantastic regardless. T: It seems like Founders took the basic essence of a standard-issue RIS and distilled it into rapturous glory. I first notice flavors of cream, vanilla, and chocolate; before roasted malts envelop the tastebuds. The umami qualities on the finish are glorious, melding together with anise, tobacco, and pine flavors. It has just enough complexity to keep the palate guessing, while being simple enough that one can easily pick out the differing handful of flavors. Yum. M: You wouldnt expect such a thick, creamy monster to be so drinkable - but the delicately dry finish and brilliant alcohol concealment means this will be all gone before you know what to do. Its not so dry as to render its aftertaste gutted, however; some syrupy linger remains without creating overpowering sweetness. One of the best RIS palate feels Ive ever encountered outside of Nogne Os RIS. O: Founders didnt reinvent the wheel, they just showed every other brewer how it should be made in the first place. A brilliant reminder why this is my favorite style out there, and a not-so-brilliant reminder that this was the only bottle I had. :(

Bottle from West Side. One year aged. Pours a pitch black with a strong 2 fingers of brown foam that linger. Huge black forest cake nose with cherry, blueberry and fudge brownie. Smooth and silky on the palate, but still a little alcohol heat perceived. Big cacao nib, berry and fudge. So good. A sipper and cant wait to open a few bottles in years to come.

12 ounces bottle shared with brother, thanks your the share. 12/22/2014 bottle. Aroma: molasses, intense wood, cacao. App: pitch black with small brown head with sparing head leaving little lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, fruity, liquoreux, light acidity finish. Overall: excellent. This one was found on the shelf in some corner store. Aged pretty well considering that fact. Really good.

Ruskigt bra.
