The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

33 cl bottle @ Bruges.
Originally rated on 20100722.
Pours dark brown, almost black color with a large, frothy off-white head. Aroma of licorice, dark toasted malts, some sourish ripe fruits and caramel. Flavor of dark toasted malts, some caramel and toffee notes, licorice and brown sugar, mild dark chocolate notes too. Excellent.

Lots of toast, bread, and nuts. More of a dark, roasted brown ale than a stout. Surprisingly light in bod. Creamy head that sticks around. Hides its alcohol well.

Black pour under a thin spotty off white head. Nice figgy fruity dark roasty stoutly nose. Big roasty dark black malt flavor that’s slightly earthy and slightly fruity without all the fun of chocolatiness. Just kinda mellow and dark and roasty and gently fruity.

Bottle, 330 ml, courtesy of and shared with JFK10000. Deep brown, beige head. Caramel, malty, sweet, some chocolate, light to medium bodied. Thin, watery. Bland, disappointing.

Draft 0.25l at Cafe Hesp Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 01.03.2017. Pour it dark color with medium white head. Aroma light roasted malt, some chocolate. Taste lots of roasted malt with caramel, sweet sugary finish, pinch of bitter dark chocolate in the middle, but really thin feel with light body, lively, astringent finish.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2017 Bottle consumed at Het Waterhuis Aan de Bierkant. All of the usual suspects present for consumption. Dark black in color with a healthy tan head. Aroma is mild but features some cocoa, dark fruit, and a malty and bready characteristic. Taste is a pleasant mix of chocolate, malty cereal, and a slight coffee finish. Feels very much like a standard stout which is surprising given it?s a Belgian effort. A little bit thinner than I expected but it?s definitely smooth. Nothing unique but it?s drinkable.

Bottle. Very Dark Brown. Roasted malts, caramel and toffee. Fruity, coffee & chocolate. Sweet & very smooth. Alcohol well masked. Dry finish. Less intense than other Imperials. Very drinkable. Nice Impy. (2008)

BeerViking (4779) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 2, 2017
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2017 Bottle at De Hems. Black with a tan foam. Light cocoa, red fruit and toast nose. Rich, creamy and warming, with hints of burnt toast and cocoa, and liquorice on the finish.

Flesje gedeeld met TomHendriksen (tht juni 2015). Diep donkerbruin bier met depot. Weinig aroma, misschien door de ouderdom. Ook de smaak is vlak, iets houtig en hoppig. De nasmaak is licht bitter.
